More than 18 thousand cats and dogs were brought to veterinary clinics in Kazan for the past year

4000 domestic animals were chipped to prevent the spread of the rabies virus.

(KZN.RU, April 9, Ksenia Shvetsova). An active work is being done to prevent the spread of the rabies virus in Kazan. Chipping and registration of small domestic and farm animals are among the main measures. For today, 4000 animals have passed through this procedure, including 106 souls of cattle. Timur Galeev, the head of the GBU “Gosvetob’edinenie of Kazan”, said this at the Business Monday.

In total, over 18000 cats and dogs were vaccinated in veterinary clinics of the city last year. In addition, 266 visits of veterinarians to settlements were organized for preventive measures (vaccination, treatment, disinfection), and 17000 doses of vaccine were spread in the habitats of wild carnivores.

Wild foxes often become the bearer of the rabies virus. “Thanks to the measures taken in 2017, there was not a single case of disease registered in the territory of Kazan, while 11 cases of rabies were detected in 2011”, noted T. Galeev.

Particular attention is paid to large domestic animals on the eve of Kurban Bairam, marked T. Galeev. Veterinary specialists of the association control the importation of sacrificial animals into the city, quarantine, veterinary and sanitary control at slaughter on special sites, and conduct explanatory work with the population.
