Fyokla Tolstaya will give a public lecture at the NCC “Kazan”

The great-granddaughter of the Russian writer will take part in the project “Tolstoy Readings”.

(KZN.RU, November 23). On November 27, the National Cultural Center “Kazan” will host a public lecture by journalist Fyokla Tolstaya as part of the project “Tolstoy Readings”. The theme of her speech will be “Tolstoy in the digital age”.

Fyokla Tolstaya is a journalist, a TV presenter, the head of the development department of the State Museum of L. Tolstoy in Moscow, an author of projects on the digitization of the writer's works and popularization of his work. She is the great-great-granddaughter of L. Tolstoy by the line of his second son Ilya.

The last few years, Fyokla Tolstaya has been involved in online cultural projects. In 2014, an online reading “Anna Karenina. Live Edition” has been held, authored and produced by F. Tolstaya. In 2015, the mobile application “Living Pages” was released with her participation, presenting works of Russian classics (Leo Tolstoy’s novels “War and Peace” and Fyodor Dostoevsky’s “Crime and Punishment”) in an interactive format.

Fyokla Tolstaya also acted as the author and presenter of the 8-episode program “Tolstoys” on the TV channel “Kultura”, which tells about the most prominent representatives of the famous noble family. In 2014, she managed the crowdsourcing project “All Tolstoy in one click”, organized by the L. Tolstoy State Museum. The complete works of the writer were digitized and published openly for the public.

The “Tolstoy Readings” are organized in the art-residence “Staro-Tatarskaya Sloboda”. The events are held with the support of Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan. Previously, the project participants were the American Slavist Irwin Weil and the Russian writer Vladislav Otroshenko.
