    The Braunschweig region is currently an important European educational and scientific center. In 2007 Braunschweig was awarded the honorary title of "City of Science" by the Association of Science Foundations of Germany. One of the great mathematicians, Carl Friedrich Gauss (1777-1855), was born in Braunschweig.

    On October 29, 2018, a bronze plate with the coat of arms of Kazan was unveiled on the main street of Braunschweig in front of the city hall.

    From June 20 to 23, 2019, a cultural night was held in Braunschweig, which was attended by artists from Kazan: the Panther dance ensemble, composer Elmir Nizamov and singer Elmira Kalimullina.

    In December 2019, information about the New Year traditions of Kazan was posted on the official website of Braunschweig.

    On October 19-20, 2020, Gerhard Vermes, head of the Braunschweig Department of Public Health, and Barbara Frisch, an employee of the Braunschweig Department of International Relations, took part in the BRICS Twinned Cities and Municipalities Forum 2020.

    Besides, in 2020 information about Kazan's New Year's traditions was posted on the official website of Braunschweig (in the "Twin Cities Traditions" section).

    The year 2021 saw the election of the Mayor of Braunschweig, Mr. Thorsten Kornblum, for the position of Oberbűrgermeister. The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin exchanged greetings and discussed a plan of twinning relations development.

    In January 2022, a program for the development of partnership relations was signed, providing for the exchange of groups of schoolchildren.

    In March 2022 a letter was received from the Mayor of Braunschweig Mr. Thosten Kornblum about his readiness to support the further development of relations between the cities.

    About the city:

    Verona is a city in the Venice region of northern Italy. The city is home to the metallurgical, engineering, chemical, light, woodworking, printing, food and building materials industries.  Verona has two thousand years of history, set in its charming old streets. The city has a large concentration of landmarks dating back various centuries. Verona was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. Verona hosted several football matches during the 1990 FIFA World Cup. The city is famous for being the setting for Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

    In April 2013 the Bank of Verona issued a commemorative coin dedicated to the establishment of twinning relations between Kazan and Verona.

    In 2016 a representative of the Executive Committee of Kazan took part in the Fifth Eurasian Forum in Verona.

    In June 2021, the first retreat of the Verona Eurasian Economic Forum "Innovative Enterprises and Technologies of Kazan and the Republic of Tatarstan" was held at the Kazan City Hall. The main topic of discussion for the representatives of Russian and Italian business, specialized non-profit and governmental structures was the prospects of economic and industrial cooperation.

    About the city:

    Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong Province. It is the political, economic, scientific, technical, educational, cultural and transport center of southern China. It is currently the third largest industrial exhibition in the world in terms of volume of transactions. Guangzhou has come out on top among Chinese cities in terms of cross-border e-commerce exports and imports. The sites of Diaolou and Kaiping Village are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

    On February 20, 2018, the Spasskaya Tower of the Kazan Kremlin was illuminated with a red light in honor of Guangzhou, China's sister city.

    In 2018, Kazan, along with New York (USA), Sydney (Australia) and Milan (Italy), was among the top 15 finalists for the Guangzhou International Urban Innovation Award.

    On July 17, 2019, a ceremony was organized to hand over a traditional reference Chinese tea for the collection of the Kazan Tea Way Museum.

    On November 20, 2020, Guangzhou handed over 50,000 masks and 100 thermometers to Kazan volunteers. This is the largest batch that Chinese cities have sent to their twin cities.

    On November 26, 2020, Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin delivered a congratulatory video message for the ceremony of the 5G 2020 WORLD CONVENTION held in Guangzhou.

    On September 21, 2021, Kazan hosted a Mayors’ Round Table «Evolution of smart Cities» within the framework of the International Forum Kazan Digital Week – 2021, which was attended by representatives of Guangzhou.

    On October 14, 2021, Ruslan Galiakhmetov, Head of the Department of International and Inter-Municipal Relations, participated in the Canton Fair (Guangzhou) in an online format as a listener.

    In 2022, a project was implemented to establish and develop a network of mutually beneficial contacts between the leading enterprises of Kazan and Guangzhou, as well as the preparation of the Kazan-Guangzhou 2022 Business Forum.

    On June 17, 2022, a 6-party agreement was signed between Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Ufa, Khabarovsk and the Chinese cities of Guangzhou and Qiqihar. The meeting was held via video conference call between the cities of Russia and China.

    In October 2022, Kazan was presented at the photo exhibition, in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Urban Innovation Award, organized by Guangzhou, as well as at the exhibition of photographs of the twin cities of Guangzhou.

    On December 9, 2022, in honor of the anniversary of the establishment of twinning relations between Kazan and Guangzhou, Chinese friends donated the Kazan Federal (Volga Region) University a unique collection of books «Encyclopedia of Cantonese Musical Art or Encyclopedia of Guangzhou». Forty-three volumes contain the works of prominent personalities of Guangzhou, iconic examples of literature on history and culture, as well as copies of pages of rare books. The Guangzhou Encyclopedia is a comprehensive set of the best examples of Chinese art fr om antiquity to the present day. Ruslan Galiakhmetov, Head of the Department of International and Inter-Municipal Relations of the Kazan City Council, Xiang Bo, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Kazan, Timirkhan Alishev, Vice-Rector for External Relations of the KFU, Alfiya Alikberova, Director of the Confucius Institute of the KFU, and Liu Pingqing, Head of the Guangzhou Encyclopedia Research Center, took part in the book transfer ceremony.

    On April 21, 2023, the Friendship of Peoples online chess tournament took place. It brought together teams from Kazan, Ufa, Khabarovsk, Yekaterinburg, Guangzhou and Qiqihar. It was the first joint event after the signing of the six-party agreement between the cities of Russia and China in 2022, and was intended to strengthen friendly relations.

    On May 25-26, 2023, Nicholas Yu, Executive Director of the Guangzhou Institute for Urban Innovation, an expert in the field of sustainable development, participated online in the Eurasian training «Eurasia Cities and Global Trends», which was held in Kazan.

    On the initiative of Guangzhou, from March to June 2023, there were organized online Chinese language courses for employees of the Kazan City Council.   

    Photos of Kazan were posted on the Stand of the participating cities of the six-party agreement within the framework of the Guangzhou Expo, which took place from August 25 to 28, 2023 in Guangzhou.

    In 2023, the project of the rehabilitation of the city-park Chaikovoye Lake improvement entered the top 15 of the Guangzhou International Urban Innovation Award.

    In August 2023, a delegation from Guangzhou visited Kazan to familiarize itself with the best practices of Kazan. The delegation included Deng Jianfu, Deputy Secretary General of the CPC Committee in Guangzhou, Deng Hongyong, Deputy Head of the Guangzhou Development and Reform Commission, Zhou Daly, Head of the Planning and Development Department of the Office of Foreign Affairs of the Guangzhou People's Government, Ruan Wei, head of the Guangzhou Center for International Exchanges and Cooperation, and other officials.

    On September 11-15, 2023, a delegation from Kazan headed by Ilsur Metshin visited Guangzhou. On September 15, 2023, a meeting was held with Guangzhou Mayor Guo Yonghang. The heads of the two cities discussed cooperation in the fields of sports, tourism, landscaping, economy and entrepreneurship.

    On November 1, 2023, an online round table meeting of the participants in the protocol of intent was held between the cities of Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Ufa, Khabarovsk, Guangzhou and Qiqihar. The head of the Europe and America Department of the Office of Foreign Affairs of the Guangzhou CPC City Committee Mr. Zheng Jun took part in this event. 

    In December 2023, Vice-Mayor of Kazan Evgeniya Lodvigova and Head of the Department of International and Inter-Municipal Relations Ruslan Galiakhmetov visited the city of Guangzhou, wh ere Kazan was awarded the Medal of Honor of the Guangzhou International Award in the field of urban innovation for the improvement project of the park "Maloye Chaikovoye Lake".

    Kazan pupils defended the city's honour at the international drawing competition "Megacity through the Eyes of Children", which was held as part of the Global Mayors' Forum in Guangzhou on 7-9 December 2023.  19 outstanding artworks, 5 of which were made by Kazan pupils, were selected by a commission of international experts and displayed at the exhibition.

    The Guangzhou delegation headed by Vice Mayor Ms Tan Ping took part in the opening ceremony of the Games of the Future held on 22 February 2024. During the visit, the guests met with the leadership of the Kazan Executive Committee and Kazan City Council. 

    Representatives of the Guangzhou City Hall took part in the Cities' Round Table «Modern Urban Services» in an online format within the framework of the International Forum Kazan Digital Week-2024. 

    On October 31, 2024, Nicholas Yu, Executive Director of the Guangzhou Institute of Urban Innovation, spoke at the BRICS Association of Cities and Municipalities meeting in Dubai.

    The delegation of the city of Guangzhou, led by Cai Jian'an, a member of the party committee and the Head of superintendent of Guangzhou Municipal Education Bureau, took part online in the session «School Exchanges as a Key for Intermunicipal Cooperation» within the framework of the II International Forum “SPROUTS: Russia and China - Mutually Beneficial Cooperation”, which was held November 14-15, 2024. A memorandum of cooperation was signed between the multidisciplinary lyceum No. 187 of the Sovetsky district of Kazan and the Wangxiu secondary school at Tsinghua University in Guangzhou. Within the framework of the memorandum of cooperation, the institutions discussed the possibility of exchanging teaching experience between the teaching staff of both schools in 2025.

    About city:

    Chisinau is a city in Eastern Europe, the capital of the Republic of Moldova. The city is situated on seven hills and stretches along the river Bic, the right tributary of the Dniester. It received the status of a city in 1818 after having become a part of the Russian Empire. In Chisinau, you can see both typical buildings of the Soviet period and significant architectural monuments as the neoclassical Cathedral of the Nativity. The domed temple is a part of the whole ensemble of the Cathedral Park. There is also a square with a 19th century triumphal arch, built to commemorate Russia's victory over the Ottoman Empire. Stefan the Great Park is named in honour of the Moldovan prince who resisted the Ottoman Empire.

    On September 23, 2020 the General Mayor of Chisinau Ion Cheban spoke at the Mayors’ Round Table «Smart City» within the framework of the international forum Kazan Digital Week-2020.

    In 2020, the cities of Chisinau and Kazan at the same time joined the UNESCO Network of Learning Cities.

    The delegation of Chisinau took part in the International Forum «Healthy Cities. Healthy nutrition for children», which was held in Kazan on June 1-3, 2021. The Deputy Mayor of Chisinau, Ms. Angela Kutasevich, made a presentation, and also signed the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact. Earlier, Kazan joined the Coordinating Council of the Pact fr om the Eurasia and Southwest Asia region, and the Forum actually became the first Eurasian regional forum of the Milan Pact.

    The official meeting of city representatives took place in Kazan within the framework of the «Healthy Cities. Healthy Nutrition for Children» forum, during which the signing of the letter of intent to establish friendly relations between the city of Kazan and Chisinau also occurred.

    Representatives of Chisinau took part in the 17th World Conference of Historical Cities: «Historical and Cultural Heritage as the basis of national, cultural and local identity» in Kazan on June 24-26, 2021. The Deputy Mayor of Chisinau, Mrs. Angela Kutasevich, made a presentation on the topic «Preservation and development of national languages in a multiethnic environment on the example of the city of Chisinau».

    On September 21, 2021, the Mayor General of Chisinau, Ion Cheban, spoke about the role of smart technologies in urban life at the Mayors’ Round Table «Evolution of Smart Cities» within the framework of the international forum Kazan Digital Week-2021.

    During the visit of the Chisinau delegation to Kazan in September 2021, an official meeting of the heads of the cities took place, as well as a number of working meetings, where the parties exchanged experience in the development of communal services.

    On October 21, 2021, Olga Ursu, the Head of the Office of the Mayor of Chisinau, Advisor of the Mayor, made a presentation at the VII Global Forum of the Milan Pact for Urban Food Policy. The event took place in Barcelona, wh ere Kazan was the key regional coordinator in the region of Eurasia and South-West Asia and the Chair City of the Coordinating Council of the Milan Pact in 2021-2023.

    Deputy General Mayor of the Chisinau Municipality Fadei Nagacevschi had a working visit to Kazan and made a report at the meeting of the Mayors’ Round Table «Digital transformation of management in the city», which was held on 21 September 2022 in the framework of the International Forum Kazan Digital Week-2022.

    Gwangju is the sixth largest city in South Korea, located in the south of the Korean Peninsula. It is the cultural and scientific center of the country. Gwangju hosted three World Cup matches in 2002. In 2015, Gwangju hosted the 18th World Summer Universiade.

    About the city:

    Minsk is the capital of Belarus, the administrative center of the Minsk agglomeration, the Hero City. During its rich history, Minsk has seen eras of prosperity and decline, and was both the rich capital of the principality, and the provincial town.  Today it is the largest transportation hub, a political, economic, cultural and scientific center of the country. Minsk is home to the High Tech Park. More than 500 IT companies are located there, including the largest ones: EPAM, Wargaming, ISsoft, IBA Group.

    On May 30, 2014, a meeting of representatives of executive committees of Kazan and Minsk was held at the Kazan City Hall. During the meeting they discussed the exchange of experience in the field of tourism and economy.

    From April 4 to April 7, 2018, Kazan took part in the International Spring Fair of Tourist Services "Recreation-2018" held by the Ministry of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus in Minsk. The guests of the fair were treated the traditional Tatar dessert chak-chak and were introduced to the city through 3D glasses. The solemn signing of the agreement on cooperation in the sphere of tourism development between the Committee for Tourism Development of Kazan and the Republican Union of Tourism Industry of the Republic of Belarus took place in the framework of the event as well. A presentation of the tourist potential of Kazan was held for the leading tour operators of the Republic of Belarus and visitors to the exhibition on April 6.

    Since December 14, 2018, Kazan and Minsk have been connected by a new railway route. The route covers such cities as Smolensk, Tula, Ryazhsk, Penza, Syzran and Ulyanovsk.

    From September 19 to 12, 2019, a delegation from Minsk Tractor Works took part in the XIV International Foundrymen's Congress and the Casting 2019 exhibition in Kazan.

    On September 23, 2020, representatives of Minsk took part in the Smart City Mayors’ Round Table within the framework of the international forum Kazan Digital Week-2020.

    On August 16, 2022, Victor Shchetko, Head of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the Russian Federation in Kazan, and Evgeniya Lodvigova, Deputy Head of the Kazan, met at the Kazan City Hall. The parties discussed new opportunities for the implementation of joint projects and further prospects of cooperation between the capital of Tatarstan and the Republic of Belarus, in particular, the development of twinning ties between Kazan and Minsk, cooperation in the field of urban passenger transport, exchange of experience in the field of urban economy and others.

    In September 2022 a video message was sent by the Deputy Mayor of Kazan Evgeniya Lodvigova on the occasion of the 955th anniversary of Minsk.

    On December 15-18, 2022, a delegation from Minsk visited Kazan headed by G.N.Lavrinovich, Deputy Chairman of the Education Committee of the Minsk City. The guests familiarized themselves with the education system of the capital of Tatarstan, as well as with the work of the Department of Food and Social Nutrition.

    In 2022, schools of Minsk city took part in the video conference mode in the festival "Day of Peace", in the forum dedicated to the Volunteer Day, in the teleconference "Victory Day", which were organized on the basis of Tatar-Russian secondary comprehensive school № 10 with advanced study of individual subjects of Privolzhsky district of Kazan.

    The team of Lyceum № 177 of the Novo-Savinovsky District of Kazan took first place in the international competition of young traffic inspectors. The competition between schoolchildren from Kazakhstan, Belarus and Russia was held in Minsk from May 23 to 27, 2023.

    On September 20-21, 2023 an official delegation from Minsk headed by the First Deputy Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Nadezhda Lazarevich arrived in Kazan on a working visit. The head of the delegation made a report at the Mayors' Round Table "Artificial Intelligence in City Management" within the framework of the International Forum Kazan Digital Week-2023. Guests from Belarus familiarized themselves with the work of city structures, and also held a meeting with the Deputy Mayor of Kazan Evgeniya.Lodvigova, during which they agreed to develop cooperation between the cities.

    Delegation from Minsk took part in the International Architectural and Construction Forum "Kazanysh", which was held on December 5-7, 2023 in Kazan.

    On June 21-23, 2024, a delegation from Minsk headed by Nadezhda Lazarevich, the First Deputy Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee, visited Kazan to participate in the International Forum of the BRICS+ Cities.

    On December 4-5, 2024, the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin took an official visit to Minsk, during which the Kazan delegation visited municipal facilities. On December 5, the Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Metshin, and the Chairman of the Minsk Executive Committee, Vladimir Kukharev, signed an agreement on establishing sister city relations and cooperation between the cities and discussed further cooperation in various fields.

    In 2024, Tatar-Russian secondary school No. 10 with in-depth study of individual subjects of Kazan Privolzhsky district and school No. 121 of Minsk held online meetings, friendship teleconferences with the aim of exchanging experience in educational and educational processes, developing partnerships between schools, and unlocking the potential of students.

    In 2024, within the framework of the cooperation agreement dated April 1, 2024, Gymnasium No. 183 of the Sovetsky district of Kazan and secondary school No. 121 of Minsk carried out joint projects.

    On February 6-8, 2025, the Chief Architect of Minsk Victor Gutko visited Kazan to participate in the international architectural and construction forum «Kazanysh» and to deliver a report at the first meeting of the Architecture and Urban Development Committee of the Association of BRICS+ Cities and Municipalities, an association of chief architects of BRICS+ cities.

    On April 9-13, 2025, a delegation of the Kazan City Duma headed by the Secretary of the Kazan City Duma Albina Rafikova visited Minsk to exchange experiences. Paris is a fashion capital, giving the world such famous couturiers as Christian Dior, Chanel, Christian Lacroix, Pierre Cardin and many others.

    Since the signing of the agreement, active work has been underway. There was a visit of a delegation from Paris to Kazan.

    On May 25, 2017 on the Champ de Mars in Paris there was Sabantuy with participation of Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo, Ambassador of Russia in France Alexander Orlov. A presentation on Kazan's touristic potential was also held.

    In order to increase the flow of foreign tourists, as well as to make Kazan more recognizable outside the Russian Federation and in the framework of twinning and partnership relations, a banner advertising exchange with the city of Paris was carried out in 2018.

    On the territory of the trade mission of the Russian Federation in Paris, a branch of the Kazan Museum of Socialist Life regularly holds its expositions.

    December 14, 2020 Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin made a video address at the international conference in Paris, dedicated to the anniversary of the signing of the Paris Agreement.

    Footage of the visit of the Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo to Kazan and exclusive footage of Sabantuy celebration on the Champ de Mars in Paris were shown in the capital of Tatarstan at the International specialized exhibition "Tourism. Sports. Active Recreation", held on April 9 and 10, 2021 in the exhibition center Kazanskaya Yarmarka. The event coincides with the 5th anniversary of signing the Cooperation Agreement between Kazan and Paris.

    In June 2021 Mr. Jean-Yves Camus, Special Advisor of Department of International Relations of the Paris City Hall, took part in the 17th World Conference of Historic Cities in Kazan. Also the participants were welcomed on behalf of the Mayor of Paris Ms. Anne Hidalgo by the Deputy Mayor of Paris Arnaud Ngacha, also he made a presentation at one of the thematic sessions of the conference.
