Astrakhan is the oldest economic and cultural center of the Lower Volga and Caspian region. Astrakhan transport hub is part of the global transport system. It is located on 11 islands. The city received its name Astrakhan from Tatar Astrakhan, which is located nearby and known since the XIV century. The main industry of Astrakhan region is the fuel industry. Here is the Astrakhan gas condensate field, the largest in the European part of Russia. On June 10, 2017, Kazan City Hall hosted a meeting between Evgeniy Varakin, Chief of Staff of the Executive Committee of Kazan, and representatives of the AO Almaty City Development Center, headed by Zhanna Tulegenova, Chairman of the Board of the Center. During the meeting, there was a presentation of the project Smart and Safe City. On December 15, 2017, the international passenger railway route Almaty - Kazan was launched. In December 2022, as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation, a press tour was held for the delegation of Kazan in Almaty. An important result of the trip was the signing of an Agreement on cooperation in the development of the tourism sector between the Committee for Tourism Development of Kazan and the Tourism Department of Almaty.
Athletes from Almaty took part in the Special Olympics international swimming tournament «Let’s Win Together» among people with Down syndrome, which was held in Kazan from June 6 to 10, 2025.
On September 20-28, 2025, the delegation of Almaty took part in the BRICS Youth Festival. In the BRICS Youth Olympiad, Kairat Aruzhan took second place in mathematics, Baisyn Mohammed and Nurbagi Nurbek took third place in IT. From November 13 to December 14, 2020, the exhibition «Kaftan. Costumes of the Ottoman Empire through the eyes of modern Turkish designers». The exhibition presented reconstructions of the original Ottoman palace costumes created by designers of the Scientific and Educational Institute for the Study of Traditional Turkish Clothing and Art - the Olgunlashma Institute of Antalya and the Olgunlashma Sabanji Institute. On September 6-8, 2024, Kazan took part in the third International gastronomic festival Food Fest Antalya. The tourism and gastronomic potential of the capital of Tatarstan was presented by Director of the Committee for Tourism Development of Kazan Daria Sannikova, and the masterpieces of Tatar national cuisine were prepared under the guidance of the talented chef Alexander Ilyichev. As part of the visit to the sister city of Antalya, a meeting was held at the City Hall with the Deputy Secretary General of the Mayor in charge of tourism, Mr. Mustafa Gurbuz, and the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Antalya, Sergei Vetrik. They discussed further cooperation and plans for the development of tourism between the cities.
On October 11-13, 2024, a delegation from Kazan visited Antalya. The capital of Tatarstan was represented by Deputy Head of the City Executive Committee Guzel Sagitova and Head of the Education Department Irek Rizvanov. During the visit, a meeting was held with the Mayor of Antalya Mukhittin Becek and with the Vice Mayor of Antalya for Social Affairs Mustafa Gürbuz, with whom they agreed on cooperation.
