According to rescuers, the weather favors the flooding period.
(KZN.RU, April 8, Alina Berezhnaya). For the month from March 7 to April 7, 18 complaints on private residential houses and basements flooding were received by the Unified Dispatch Service of Kazan. Ferdinant Timurkhanov, the head of the Civil Defense Directorate, announced this was today at the Business Monday.
According to F. Timurkhanov, the weather favors the flooding period when low night temperatures give way to positive daytime temperatures. Such weather conditions will continue in the coming week.
At the same time, houses located in the lowlands and along the banks of small rivers, in particular, Kazanka, Kinderki, Noksa and Sikhaya Reka, are still at risk. The operational team of the Kazan Civil Protection Directorate together with representatives of the districts make a daily detour at these sites”, said F. Timurkhanov, adding that the danger from the flood of the Volga River is minimal.
To prevent the consequences of the flood, preventive measures are taking place in Kazan for the last two weeks. In particular, 175 culvert end caps have been cleaned, 2 km 600 meters of storm trenches have been cleaned and dredged, and 4 thousand 570 shower receivers have been cleared of frost. According to F. Timurkhanov, the work in this direction will be continued.
Snow removal work was carried out around all pedestrian and underground crossings to prevent flooding with melt and groundwater. Dispatcher services of the city work around the clock.
“In general, the flood situation in Kazan is under control. The plan for preparing for the flood was fulfilled by 95%. The city is ready”, reported F. Timurkhanov.
Denis Kalinkin, the head of the Executive Committee, noted that the situation must be controlled despite the favorable weather. “I ask you to keep the situation under constant control and monitor the status of problem areas in terms of possible flooding”. D. Kalinkin also instructed the heads of district administrations to pay attention to the elimination of puddles in the pedestrian areas of the city.
