The metro became the second most popular after buses – 14% of passengers used it.
During the year, the number of passengers in public transport in Kazan has increased by 7%. Passengers are increasingly using the metro. Public transport enterprises of the city lack 770 drivers and 843 conductors. This was reported to the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin by Deputy head of the Executive Committee Ildar Shakirov.
The departments of the Executive Committee of Kazan continue to report to the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin at the summing-up meetings. According to the deputy head of the Executive Committee, Ildar Shakirov, the number of passengers transported by public transport in the city increased by 7% during the year: in 2021 there were 206.7 million passengers, while in 2022 there were 220.9 million people. However, this number is almost 40 million people less than the pre–pandemic level of 2019 when 260.7 million passengers used public transport.
Last year, Kazan residents usually used buses - almost 70% of transportation with coverage of over 153.4 million passengers. The second most popular was the metro – it was used by 14%, or 30.5 million passengers. Trolley-buses and trams transported 10% (22.2 million passengers) and 6% (14.8 million) respectively.
More than 460 thousand citizens used preferential transport cards. On average, about 109 thousand such cards are replenished monthly. The number of preferential trips compared to 2021 has practically not changed and amounted to 70 million. Since October, children of mobilized Kazan citizens from 8 to 18 years can use public transport for free. They are issued a transport card. For reference, children under 7 years of age can use public transport free of charge.
In 2022 In order to improve the safety of passenger transportation 7 buses were equipped with automatic recording devices for violations of traffic rules, namely traffic in a dedicated lane. So, 31 thousand violations were registered on 47 streets with bus lanes.
The city's public transport employs 1,437 drivers and 1,309 conductors. Despite the recruitment and training of staff, there is still a shortage of employees. Today, 770 drivers and 843 conductors are required.
For reference, the transport network of the city comprises 56 bus routes, which operate 732 vehicles, 10 trolleybus routes for 136 vehicles; 9 tram routes for 87 vehicles, one metro line with 11 stations for 15 trains. The length of bus routes is more than 1,200 km, tram – 247 km, trolleybus – 257.4 km, metro – 18.2 km.
