The delegation of the German city met with Daria Sannikova in the City Hall.
(KZN.RU, June 25, Alsu Safina). On June 26, a friendly football match will take place in the capital of Tatarstan between the youth teams of Braunschweig and Kazan. On the eve of the game, the delegation of the German city together with young athletes visited the Kazan City Hall. Guests were greeted by Daria Sannikova, the Director of the Committee for Tourism Development, and Svetlana Vostrikova, the chairperson of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sports.
Opening the meeting, Daria Sannikova reminded that Kazan and Braunschweig have been friends for 29 years. They are twin-towns. “We are honored that you have come to us”, she said.
D. Sannikova noted that Kazan is actively developing. Over the past 10 years, the tourist flow has grown almost 10 times, and this year the city plan to host a 3-millionth tourist. The city is developing in the sporting direction. Kazan is often called the sports capital of Russia for a reason. In 2013, the World Summer Universiade was held in the capital of Tatarstan, in 2015, the FINA World Championships was held, last year, Kazan together with three other Russian cities hosted the FIFA Confederations Cup. This year Kazan hosts 6 World Cup football matches, three of which have already taken place.
Gerard Eckel Walker, the employee of the City Council of Braunschweig, said that the friendship between the two cities lasts more than 30 years. In 1982, the first exchange of students took place. “I am proud to have come here again. I was in Kazan in 1983for the first time, and I had the opportunity to observe how the school exchange developed over the years”, he noted. Gerard Eckel Walker said that their delegation had already spent two days in Kazan. The team already had a training session, and the athletes and coaches were able to see what wonderful conditions were created for the players. Now the team is looking forward to a friendly match with Kazan players. The employee of the City Council of Braunschweig expressed the hope that the game will be held in a friendly atmosphere.
Gerard Eckel Walker drew attention to the fact that Kazan and Braunschweig unite not only by twin-town relations. The German city is considered to be the sports city №1 in the north of the country. “We can find much in common for the further development of our relations”, said Gerard Eckel Walker.
During the visit to Kazan, the delegation will visit the match of the German national team, the current champion. They will play at the Kazan Arena stadium against the South Korean team on June 27. At the meeting in the City Hall, Gerard Eckel Walker handed the members of the youth team Braunschweig tickets for this game. The members of the delegation of Braunschweig noted the hospitality that the German team received last year at the Confederations Cup.
At the end of the meeting, Gerard Eckel Walker noted that such an exchange should last for many years. It is a good opportunity for young people to get acquainted with peers from another city and another country, learn another culture, and see a different way of life. Gerard Eckel Walker also invited Daria Sannikova and Svetlana Vostrikova to Braunschweig to see the beauty of this city.

The coaches of the youth team of Braunschweig Matthias Martin Franz Fuchs and Karsten Buholts, Thomas Graf, the head of the Department of Economics and Science of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Moscow, and others also attended the event.
