Zulfiya Kim, a cardiologist: “Now patients often refuse of hospitalization, despite the first signs of vascular accidents”

According to the doctor, the risk of contracting coronavirus in hospitals is minimized as much as possible.

The risk of clotting increases during a coronavirus pandemic – the virus can provoke a heart attack and stroke. “Unfortunately, now patients often refuse of hospitalization, despite the first signs of vascular accidents. They are afraid to get infected with the coronavirus,”- Zulfiya Kim, chief cardiologist of the Tatarstan Ministry of health, deputy chief medical officer of the city clinical hospital - 7, told at a press conference at the IA Tatar-inform today.

Despite the reassignment of some medical facilities for coronavirus patients, the number of beds in Tatarstan for patients with heart attacks, unstable angina, and cerebrovascular disorders has been preserved.

Among the reasons for hospitalization, the doctor called the appearance of pressing, burning, compressing retrosternal pain. “If you don't seek medical care in time, in some cases it can be fatal”, - she said, adding that 93% of heart attack patients can be saved if they are hospitalized in time.

According to Z.Kim, the risk of contracting a coronavirus infection in medical facilities is minimized as much as possible. Each hospital has a buffer zone for patients with suspected infection. In addition, hospitals have allocated entire blocks for patients who have detected both coronavirus infection and vascular disease.

“If there is a patient with suspected coronavirus in the reception unit, the room is closed, ventilation is blocked, all surfaces are disinfected, and thorough cleaning is carried out”, - Z.Kim added.

Dina Khasanova, chief vascular neurologist of the Tatarstan Ministry of health, told about the importance of timely medical care in case of stroke. “Today we are focused on coronavirus, other diseases are overshadowed. But this is wrong. The mortality rate from stroke is 15-20%, which is significantly higher than for coronavirus (no more than 5%). Besides, stroke can cause disability”, - she said.
