During the Perseids meteoric shower, up to 110 meteors will fly in the sky over Kazan in one hour

The meteoric shower can be observed at nighttime on August 12-13.

Residents of Tatarstan and its capital can observe the Perseids meteoric shower until August 24. The peak time will be on the night of August 12-13 – up to 110 meteors per hour.

“The Perseids meteor shower is the most interesting of all the falls of the year- explains Yuri Nefediev, director of the Engelhardt Astronomical Observatory, professor at the Institute of Physics of Kazan Federal University. – It consists of particles ejected by the Swift-Tuttle comet, very different in size. These can be dust particles, and quite large meteor fireballs”.

The shooting stars are better observed with the naked eye – this way you can see more of them, and the best time for observations is from midnight to dawn.

According to Yuri Nefediev, during the past five years, scientists have recorded 528 fireballs of the Perseids. “Perhaps someone will be lucky enough to see the fireball, it's amazing. It flies into the Earth's atmosphere with a specific sound and glows very brightly”, - the astronomer adds.

Solid particles have different sizes, so when they burn up at an altitude of 80 kilometers from the Earth's surface, they can leave ionized glowing traces of a curlicue shape. Zigzag luminous lines and even balls formed by meteors of this stream, some people even take for traces left by UFOs, quotes Yuri Nefediev KFU’s Press Office.
