Vladimir Vavilov: «There are no patients for us, each ward of the hospice is the member of our family»

On March 27 the Fund named after Angela Vavilova celebrats the 16-anniversary.

(KZN.RU, March 27, Alina Berezhnaya). Today the Fund named after Angela Vavilova is celebrating the 16-anniversary. For the years the fund prolonged the lives of more than 7 thousand children and grown-ups with oncological and other great degenerative diseases. The Kazan hospice helps to obtain palliative care to terminally-ill patients.

The history of the fund gets back to March 2003. Then, 16 years ago Angela, Vladimir Vavilov's 2-year-old daughter, died of leukaemia. The tragedy transformed to a big project - Vladimir Vavilov started the fund on donated money for her daughter. The main target is the help to the families who have experienced dangerous diseases of their children.

In the summer of 2014 the first children's hospice was open to donations in the republic which accepted 17 patients of round-the-clock hospital. In a year an 18-bed office for patients older than 18 years was open there.

Today the Kazan hospice has become one of the best hospitals in Europe. «To get this status, it is necessary to pass thorny path», - remembers Vladimir Vavilov.

«I always say that work of public organization can be shown only by labour. At the early stage it was difficult, I was often misunderunderstood, it would take too long to explain that such places were necessary, they were able to remove pain, give a psychological, intellectual and social support for all people», - tells V.Vavilov.

Today there are 17 children and 18 grown-ups in the hospital, and the hospice services patronizes additionally 108 young patients and 52 grown-ups. Daily the staff supports a mental and emotional state of our patients, helps to deal with them a loss of close relative. «The hospice is love of neighbour, we shouldn't worked without love. There are no patients for us, each ward of the hospice is the member of our family», - says V.Vavilov.

The Fund named after Angela Vavilova fights against cancer. About 200 children with oncological and other great degenerative diseases need the Fund assistance at this time. It is worth adding that today each 35th republic inhabitant is placed on a register in oncological clinic in Tatarstan.

The fund named after Angela Vavilova has the plans of construction of the second hospital in Tatarstan. One of important tasks has been already resolved on the level of the Russian Federation Government has recently been approved for a plot of land on which to build a hospice for grown-ups. The active fund-raising for this initiative is in process for a second year. At the present nearly 29 million roubles was received, but we need to get 250 million roubles.
