Raids to ensure compliance with the parking rules for electric scooters from kick-sharing companies will take place in Kazan
Today, raids to ensure compliance with the parking rules for electric scooters from kick-sharing companies took place in Kazan. As many as 304 scooters were removed from the streets for violation of the traffic rules in the historic center of the city. This measure was introduced this season after complaints from residents regarding the presence of scooters left in the city's central areas.
To address this issue, the number of designated parking spaces was reduced to 1,443, and the total capacity was reduced by 14,430.
“This year we have changed the rules for the placement of rental electric scooters. This is due to the safety of pedestrian movement in places with high traffic and narrow pedestrian sidewalks in the historical center,”- said Alexey Sidorov, head of the Kazan Transport Committee.
The raid was carried out by employees of the Transport Committee, the Technical Inspection, as well as the Traffic Police of Kazan.
For reference, electric scooters are only allowed for people over the age of 16. It is prohibited to drive scooters on motorways. It is also forbidden to ride two people on one scooter. The maximum speed allowed is 20 km/h. Special speed limits up to 10-15 km/h have been introduced in 486 city sections (near schools, kindergartens, parks, and squares).
