Vladimir Putin on the Moscow– Kazan highway: “There is a decision to extend it to Yekaterinburg with perspective to Vladivostok”

According to the President of Russia, this will significantly expand economic ties with the markets of Southeast Asia.

The M12 Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod– Kazan highway under construction will be extended to Yekaterinburg, and in the future – to Vladivostok with access to other countries. This decision was announced today at the Address to the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation by President Vladimir Putin.

“It has already been decided to extend the Moscow–Kazan highway to Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk and Tyumen, and in the future – to Irkutsk and Vladivostok, with access to Kazakhstan, Mongolia and China,”- Vladimir Putin said. He noted that the extension of the highway will significantly expand economic ties with the markets of Southeast Asia.

For reference, the M12 highway has a length of more than 800 km. In September 2022, Vladimir Putin launched the traffic at the 22.5 km section of the first start-up facility of the zero stage of the M12 in the Moscow region. Traffic on the main section of the highway from Moscow to Kazan is planned to be launched at the end of 2023. It will allow to cover the distance between the cities in 6.5 hours by car. The project is being implemented as part of a Comprehensive plan for the modernization and expansion of the motorway infrastructure until 2024.
