652 fires occurred in Kazan last year

81 people were saved due to the active preventive work.

(KZN.RU, February 7, Alina Berezhnaya). Today, the Kazan Executive Committee summed up the results of the activities of the Kazan Civil Protection Directorate for 2018 and voiced the tasks for 2019. The main report was made by Ferdinant Timurkhanov, the head of the department.

According to F. Timurkhanov, last year 652 fires occurred on the territory of Kazan. Despite the actual increase in the number of fires (in 2017 there were 598), the number of people who died on them remained at the level of previous years: 34 people.

Thanks to active preventive work, 81 human lives were saved. “Preventive measures with the population were held throughout the year. For example, during the heating period, rescuers held explanatory conversations with members of dysfunctional families, large families and citizens without a permanent place of residence”, reported F. Timurkhanov. Accident prevention work continues this year.

The Unified Duty and Dispatching Service “063” made an invaluable contribution to the work of the fire services. In 2018, it received 329609 calls. Over the course of its existence, the service received over 2 million calls.

According to F. Timurkhanov, rescuers carried out 27 activities to promote safe behavior on the water and also distributed more than 3 thousand brochures on the beaches of the city during the swimming season. Classes were conducted in 7 recreational summer camps for children. They learned the rules of behavior on the water, rescuing of drowning people, first aid to drowning people and on having a heat stroke. Also, the management staff explained to schoolchildren the rules of behavior on the water before the summer holidays. “All these activities contributed to the reduction of mortality in the water. For example, 10 people were saved during the swimming period, 4 of them were children, 264 people got first aid”, reported F. Timurkhanov. There were no drown cases at the registered swimming areas.

The work to ensure the safety of citizens on the water continued from the beginning of the ice formation. Thus, 90 patrols were conducted in the waters of the Volga and Kazanka rivers, during which 210 conversations were conducted and 320 brochures were distributed.

According to the head of the department, it is necessary to strengthen preventive work in 2019: instructing, conducting exercises, classes, and practical training.

In general, the city rescuers coped with all the tasks assigned to them. Iskander Giniyatullin, the deputy head of the Kazan Executive Committee, instructed civil protection services not to slow down the pace of work. “It is necessary to continue working with the same will. Today the material and technical base of management and relevant services is being strengthened, professionals are being trained. There is an opportunity to train personnel. We need to continue working with the population further: hold explanatory conversations, warn people against thoughtless actions, but at the same time to create conditions for their safety”, said I. Giniyatullin.
