During the New Year holidays, 64% of the monthly average rainfall fell in Kazan

Since the beginning of the winter season, as many as 318,000 tons of snow have been removed from city streets, including 137,000 tons in January

During the New Year holidays, 64% of the monthly average rainfall fell in Kazan. Up to 800 cleaning vehicles and more than 600 road workers were involved in street cleaning every day. Road cleaning was carried out around the clock, including sidewalks, parking lots and pedestrian areas, as well as snow removal and deicing treatment. Igor Kulyazhev, Deputy Head of the Kazan Executive Committee, announced this at a staff meeting today.

«In general, we did a good job on the main roads. The day after the snowfall, the main roads were clean, as well as most of the sidewalks. But, of course, when 64% of the monthly average rainfall falls on the city, it is impossible to clear everything right away: we began with the main rods and sidewalks», – said Rustem Gafarov, Head of the Executive Committee.

According to Tatarstan Hydrometeorological Center, 29.5 mm of rainfall fell in the city in the first decade of January, which is 64% of the monthly average, while the main rainfall fell on January 3 and 4. On average, at least 800 special snow-cleaning vehicles were involved on the streets every day, and on January 7, their number exceeded 1,000. Since the beginning of the winter season, 318,000 tons of snow have been removed in Kazan, including 137,000 tons in January. At the same time, deicing of the roads and sidewalks was carried out, as well as street cleaning with full coverage of the urban road network.

Special attention was paid to the pedestrian infrastructure. Sidewalks, underground and aboveground crossings, bus stops and access roads to New Year’s festive sites were under constant control. More than 600 road workers were involved in snow cleaning every day.
