A school for 1,224 students will be put into operation by the next school year in the Novo-Savinovsky district of Kazan

The Mayor of the city Ilsur Metshin inspected the progress of the construction of a new school on Nigmatullina Street.

A new school with a capacity of 1,224 students will open in the Novo-Savinovsky district of Kazan next year. Swimming pools and gyms will be equipped for children, as well as an assembly hall with more than 500 seats, which is comparable to the concert hall of the Saidash Cultural Center. The progress of the construction was inspected today by the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin.

“The population of Kazan is increasing. Every year we record an increase in the number of students: this year 166,000 children went to schools, then next year their number will increase by another 10 thousand children. It pleases, but at the same time imposes on us the responsibility for the construction of schools in new residential areas,”- Ilsur Metshin said.

Seventeen schools and extensions have been built in Kazan over the past 5 years. This is one of the best indicators in the country, but this is not enough. Schools located near the educational institutions under construction are overcrowded by an average of one and a half times. Therefore, another school under construction at the intersection of Nigmatullina and Sibgat Khakima streets is extremely necessary, the Mayor stressed. It will unload the existing schools, as well as admit new residents of this district – in the next few years, residential buildings for 2,200 apartments will be built here.

“Construction is on schedule, there is everything so that in the new academic year we will hear the first bell in the new school,”- said the Mayor of Kazan.

Construction works are carried out under the Education national project. The area of the three-storey building will be 24.5 thousand square meters. Deputy Director of the Tatarstan Investment and Construction Department Dinar Badrutdinov reported to Ilsur Metshin that construction and installation works are currently underway at the facility, the monolithic frame of the building is completed. “The work is carried out according the the schedule. Now 70 people are working at the facility,”- D. Badrutdinov reported.

On the first floor of the school there will be classrooms for elementary school students, and on the second and third floors, in addition to classrooms, there will be an assembly hall, a canteen, 2 swimming pools and 2 gyms, a library and other offices. A football pitch and playgrounds for volleyball, basketball and tennis will be built on the landscaped territory for students.

The new school will create an accessible environment for teaching children with disabilities. According to the project, the entrance groups are equipped with ramps, and elevators are also available in the building. Toilets for children with special needs are located on all floors.

Ilsur Metshin got acquainted with the design projects of the classrooms and instructed to finalize them taking into account the opinion of the principal the new educational institution. “Every school should have its own design. It is important that teachers and management are involved in the development of the design of the classrooms,”- the head of the city noted. Albert Akhmetov, Deputy Head of the Department of Education, said that the competition for the position of school principal continues, presently there are 4 applicants. At the final stage, they will have to present their own vision of the concept of the school.

To date, there are 200 schools in Kazan, including 169 municipal ones with 166,335 students.
