Competitions on solar boats will be held in Kazan

More than 50 teams from 26 regions of the country will take part in the race.

(KZN.RU, June 13). From 27 to 30 of June, the engineering competition “Solar Regatta” will be held for the first time in Kazan on Lake Nizhny Kaban. More than 50 teams from 26 regions of the country will compete in the speed and maneuverability of unique ecological boats.

Competitions have been held in Russia since 2014. Engineering teams compete in speed, maneuverability and endurance of boats driven by solar energy. Earlier races took place in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Vladivostok, Kaliningrad, Veliky Novgorod, and Grozny.

Since 2018, competitions are held among school teams. Earlier, mainly students of technical universities of Russia took part in the “Solar Regatta”. Also, a new direction appeared: the competition of UAV-powered solar-powered aircraft. This category was created in order to draw attention to the introduction of innovative technologies in career guidance programs for schoolchildren in all regions of Russia, said the organizers of the competition.

In 2019, another unique nomination will be presented at the races: 3D-models of boats.

The winners of school competitions will be awarded the Cup of the “Solar Regatta”, a challenge prize that was established in 2018, according to the organizers of the competition.
