The responders of the Chernobyl accident have been commemorated in Kazan

About 3500 Tatarstan citizens fought against the consequences of the catastrophe.

(KZN.RU, April 26, Ksenia Shvetsova). Today, a meeting was held in a square at the intersection of Yamashev and Amirkhan Prospects in Kazan to commemorate the responders of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. In honor of the 33rd anniversary of the tragedy, numerous residents of the city, members of the responders, their relatives, Kazan schoolchildren, students of cadet classes of the EMERCOM, and many others laid flowers at the memorial to the responders-heroes.

On April 26, 1986, there was the most terrible man-made disaster of the XX century – the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. 19 regions, 5908 settlements of the former Soviet Union were subjected to radioactive nuclides. 4 million 430 thousand inhabitants lived on their territory, who were faced with the terrible consequences of the radiation-chemical storm.

The responders of the accident did everything possible and impossible to reduce the consequences of this disaster. Risking their health and future, about 350 thousand people, military and civilians, struggled with the raging radioactive element. About 3500 Tatarstan citizens passed through the radiation field among them.

“Today we have gathered here to pay the tribute of deep respect to all who have eliminated the consequences of the most terrible accident of the past century at the cost of their lives. You, not sparing life and health, have begun to fight the catastrophe”, Adel Mubarakshin, the deputy minister of Labor, Employment and Social Protection of the RT, addressed the meeting participants. “The feat of the heroes of Chernobyl must remain in our memory, in the memory of our children and descendants as an example of loyalty to duty and homeland, dedication and patriotism”.

“Our life is divided into two parts: before Chernobyl and after it. We were 25-30 years old when we went to Chernobyl, and today we are all over 60. I am glad to see everyone with whom we joined the fight against the catastrophe”, Alexander Barskov, the president of the public organization of disabled people “Chernobyl Union” in the RT, greeted the participants. “Today we receive congratulations from all regions of the country. The merit of many of us is that we observed the safety rules that life dictated to us. And today we say to young people: you have to be professionals in your work and always follow the rules that are written in blood now”.

At the end of the meeting, the memory of those killed in the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was honored with a minute of silence and laying of flowers at the memorial of Chernobyl Fame. Today, churches and mosques of the city hold services for those killed in a terrible disaster.

Rustem Yakhin, the deputy military commissar of the RT, Valery Kazakov, the head of the Department of Territorial Interaction and Rehabilitation of Emergencies Situations, Marat Urazaev, the deputy chairman of the Committee on Children and Youth Affairs of the Kazan Executive Committee, Viktor Stekolschikov, the chairman of the Public Organization of Disabled Persons “Chernobyl Union” of the RT, and others also took part in the meeting.
