Opening of School 21, Sberbank’s educational project, which in the next few years will allow employers of the Republic and the whole country to engage the world – class programmers, was held in Kazan yesterday. The opening ceremony was attended by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, President and CEO of Sberbank Herman Gref, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin and others.
Sberbank's educational initiative will cover a number of Russian regions in the future. Previously, School 21 was opened in Moscow. The specialists trained at School 21 meet the highest requirements, and their skills will allow them to make a technological digital leap throughout the country.
Rustam Minnikhanov noted that opening of School 21 is of great importance for the Republic in developing of digitalization. He thanked the management of Sberbank for their attention to cooperation with Tatarstan, especially in the implementation of joint educational projects.
Herman Gref noted that quality training in the skills of the future is the key to the successful development of the country. The results shown by School 21 in Moscow convinced of the need to develop the project.
Later, Rustam Minnikhanov and Herman Gref signed a cooperation agreement between the Republic of Tatarstan and Sberbank. The document is aimed at development and implementation of digital technologies in the Republic in the priority sectors of economy and social sphere, Tatarstan President’s Press Office reports.
The agreement of intent between Tatarstan Government and Sberbank, aimed at attracting technology to areas of innovative development was also signed.
About 60 thousand applications were submitted for training at the Kazan campus of School 21. Since February, 1500 applicants who passed the first competitive tests have started participating in a four-week intensive programming course. Only 30% of the participants are citizens of Kazan, while 78 applicants are foreign citizens. The best 500 candidates will be chosen from all the candidates who will start training in May, 2020. The full training course will be from 1.5 to 3.5 years.
