The first city chess school opened in Kazan

The housewarming was celebrated with the finals of the team tournament in chess at the Kazan’s Mayor Cup.

(KZN.RU, December 19, Alina Berezhnaya). Today, the first city chess school has opened in the building of the sports school “Pervaya” (Rus. “First”) in Kazan. 115 children will study there. One of the first chessboards was tested by the finalists of the team tournament in chess at the Kazan’s Mayor Cup. 63 students attended the competition.

Evgenia Lodvigova, the first deputy head of the Kazan Municipality, Rustem Gafarov, the first deputy head of the Kazan Executive Committee, Svetlana Vostrikova, the chairman of the Committee of Physical Culture and Sports, Gennady Zakharov, the president of the Chess Federation of the RT, congratulated the leadership and students of the new school on the new home. Milyausha Ibrahimova, the director of the sports school “Pervaya”, conducted a tour of the building to the guests. She said that young chess players came to a completely renovated building, the premises had not seen repair for 65 years before. As part of the overhaul, the engineering networks were replaced, the floors, the ceiling was repaired, finishing works were carried out, new furniture was purchased, and much more.

Chess players have all the conditions for trainings and major competitions: tournament chess sets have been purchased, 3 monitors for online games with chess players fr om around the world have been installed in the competition hall, and in the classrooms you can watch the progress of the games from on large screens. Svetlana Vostrikova said that the wishes of the players themselves were taken into account in opening the school. “We tried to implement all wishes as much as possible. We even consulted with the children's and youth chess school of the Olympic reserve named after R. Nezhmetdinov”, noted Svetlana Vostrikova. On competition days, the school will be able to accommodate up to 80 participants, and on common days, 115 people can study there.

The 63 new finalists of the team tournament in chess for the Kazan Mayor's Cup were the first to try the chessboards. Evgenia Lodvigova congratulated them on the reaching the finish line.

“It was the long-awaited dream of the Kazan City Hall to have such a school. All the newest technologies are already represented in this school, only the greatest champions will be here! Today, the strongest reached the final, I wish everyone victory and success”, said Evgenia Lodvigova.

The Mayor’s Cup in chess is held in Kazan every year. This year’s competitions have become the most widespread. 729 schoolchildren in three age groups took part in the qualifying tournaments: 1-4 grades, 5-8 grades, and 9-11 grades.

“I do different kinds of sports, but I love chess most of all, even if I am not a professional. This is a strategic game wh ere you need to think not only for yourself, but also for your opponent, I develop logical thinking through the chess”, said Rauf Yarullin, a participant of the competition.

There are both newbies and those who continue the dynasty of chess players among the finalists. Thus, the mother of 8-year-old Roman Illarionov is a master of sports in chess, and his grandfather and uncle are professionally engaged in this sport as well.

“In my free time, I always play chess with my mother, she brought me to the school. I like to win, I am going to win in these competitions, too”, Roman Illarionov shared his impressions.

Not only schoolchildren will be involved in chess at the school. Within the framework of the project “Good Kazan”, one day will be allocated for disabled people and the school will have time for veterans to study.
