A memorial plaque to Alfiya Avzalova opened in Kazan

Kazan sculptor Fanil Valiullin is the author of the memorial.

(KZN.RU, June 14). Today, the grand opening of the memorial plaque to Alfiya Avzalovaa, a national artist of the TASSR, took place in Kazan. The memorial sign was installed on the facade of the house №8a on Tufan Minnulin Street where the outstanding Tatar singer lived from 2004 to 2017.

Mintimer Shaimiev, the State Councilor of the RT, Irada Ayupova, the minister of Culture of the RT, Lyudmila Andreeva, the deputy head of the Kazan Municipality, daughters of the famous singer Zulfiya Nigmedzyanova-Avzalova and Guzel Avzalova, cultural figures of the republic, fans of the performer, and others attended the opening ceremony of the memorial plaque.

A plaque was installed on the house wall on the side of M. Salimzhanov Street bus stop. Fanil Valiullin, a Kazan sculptor, a graduate of the Moscow Art Institute of Surikov, created a memorable symbol. His works are well known not only to Kazan citizens, but also to residents of other cities. For example, the sculptural compositions “To the Lake”, “Trust”, a monument to the signaling soldier in Kazan, a monument to the Mother in Bazarnye Mataki, compositions dedicated to the works of Gabdulla Tukay in the museum of the poet in Kyrlay, a monument to Jules Verne in Nizhny Novgorod, and others are among them.

Prayer in memory of the great Tatar singer will be held in the Irek Mosque today at 3 pm.

Alfiya Avzalova (January 15, 1933 – June 15, 2017) is a Soviet and Russian Tatar singer, an Honored Artist of the TASSR, a People's Artist of the TASSR, a Honored Artist of the RSFSR, a Soloist of the Tatar Philharmonia, laureate of the State Prize of the RT named after G. Tuyay, awarded the order “For the services to the Republic of Tatarstan”.

Alfiya Avzalova was born in the village of Aktanysh, the Aktanyshsky district of the RT.

In 1957, she became a soloist of the Tatar State Song and Dance Ensemble, performed complex works by S. Gabyashi, A. Klucharev, M. Muzafarov, Z. Khabibullina, and many other composers. Her repertoire includes old and modern folk songs.

The singer gained her first great success at a performance on the Decade of Tatar Art and Literature in Moscow in 1957.

Alfiya Avzalova died at the age of 85 in Kazan after a long and serious illness. Buried at the Tatar cemetery in Kazan.
