In 2022, an additional facility for 300 students will open at gymnasium No.18 in Kazan

The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin inspects the progress of construction works.

Construction of an additional facility with an area of more than 10 thousand sq. m. of gymnasium No.18 with the Tatar language of education has begun in Kazan. Presently, the educational institution is overloaded – the number of students is almost 2.5 times higher than the design capacity of the gymnasium, and students of grades 5-11 are forced to study at a neighboring school. The new two-block facility, designed for 300 students, will solve the issue of shortage of places. There will be classrooms, a canteen with 220 seats, large sports and assembly halls. The progress of construction works, which are planned to be completed by September 2022, was inspected by the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin.

The gymnasium No.18 on Kul Gali Street, 13 was built in 1982 as a kindergarten and converted into a gymnasium in 1994. The educational institution is located in a densely populated area. “The number of people wishing to study at this gymnasium increase every year due to the fact that Kazan today is one of the few cities with a high birth rate, - I.Metshin said. – We are happy about this, but it imposes on us the responsibility to create a sufficient number of new places in kindergartens and schools. This gymnasium is an example of how we solve these issues".

Currently, more than 600 people are studying at the gymnasium with a design capacity of 240 schoolchildren. The director of the gymnasium Ravil Sadykov said that 327 primary school students have classes in the main school building, the rest of the students are forced to study at the neighboring school No.42 on Gabisheva Street, 27a due to a lack of classrooms.

The construction of the additional facility started at the end of May, the customer is the Engineering - Construction Department of Tatarstan, the general contractor is RSS Engineering.

The facility will consist of two blocks of 3 and 4 floors. There will be comfortable classrooms, a large sports hall and a dining room with 220 seats. The blocks will be connected to each other by a heated passage, - said Dinar Badrutdinov, deputy director of the Engineering - Construction Department of Tatarstan.

The construction is planned to be completed in 2022. Along with the construction of a new facility, the main building of the gymnasium will be renovated. The students of the gymnasium will study at school No.42, where they will study in two shifts, till the completion of all construction works.

For reference, Kazan sustains high rates of construction of educational institutions – in 5 years, 13 schools for 2,725 places were built in the city. Last year, 10 kindergartens and 3 schools were put into operation in the capital of Tatarstan, this year it is planned to open 8 more kindergartens and 2 schools. In addition, in the new academic year, gymnasium No.189 “Zaman” at the Salavat Kupere residential complex will be fully operational, where only about 300 schoolchildren from grades 1 to 4 have been studying since 2020. “We are pleased to present our children a renovated, modern, beautiful school and will continue to work systematically on the construction of new schools and kindergartens”, - the Mayor summed up.
