The event is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
In 2022, Kazan will host the 45th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. The official decision to hold the session in the capital of Tatarstan was made at the 15th extraordinary session of the committee in Paris.
The upcoming session will be held in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
Different activities will be staged in Russian cities. In particular, a World Heritage Site Managers Forum, a Youth Forum and a children’s session will be held at the Russian Children's Center Orlyonok in the Krasnodar Territory. In addition, the Saint-Petersburg Mining University will host a World Heritage Youth Forum. The unifying theme of all events is intercultural dialogue as an imperative for the preservation of World Heritage.
The holding of the session in Kazan was previously discussed at a meeting at the Tatarstan Government House. The role of Tatarstan in the Eurasian cultural space was taken into account when selecting the site for the next session of the UNESCO Committee, Tatarstan President’s Press Office reports. For information, three Tatarstan venues are listed as the World Heritage Sites – the Kazan Kremlin, the Bulgarian Historical and Archaeological Complex, the Assumption Cathedral and the monastery of the island-city of Sviyazhsk.
It is expected that about 4 thousand delegates will attend the events, according to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
