Over 20,000 state-funded places have been allocated to Kazan universities, mainly in engineering and pedagogical studies.
Over 20 thousand state-funded places have been allocated to Kazan universities for the next academic year – 3 thousand more than in 2021. Most of the students will study engineering and pedagogical sciences free of charge. As the head of the Executive Committee Rustem Gafarov noted at the Business Monday meeting, a great attention is paid to the development of engineering education in Kazan.
“For Kazan, as an industrial city, it is very important that the number of students financed from the state in engineering and technical studies is increasing”, - said R.Gafarov. A lot is being done in Kazan so that schoolchildren understand the importance of engineering in the development of the state economy – specialized classes and new technical trainings in teen clubs are being created.
Traditionally, the most budget seats were allocated to Kazan Federal University (5616), Kazan National Research Technological University (4028), Kazan National Research Technical University (2397) and Kazan State Energy University (1514). Non-state universities will get 217 state-funded seats, said Deputy Head of the Executive Committee Guzel Sagitova.
The number of state-funded seats have also increased in vocational secondary education institutions. “In the new academic year, 16,394 ninth grade graduates will be able to study at colleges for free, which is almost 3% more than a year earlier,” G.Sagitova noted.
For reference, this year 18 thousand young Kazan residents graduated from Kazan schools, of which 11,800 graduates of the ninth grades and 6,017 eleventh graders.
The enrollment campaign at universities will run until July 15, at colleges – until August 15. Applicants can submit documents in person, by mail, through the websites of educational institutions, as well as on the portal of public services. “The universities will first accept employer-sponsored applicants, priority and excellent students, then applicants for the main state-funded seats according to the competitive selection. The enrollment of future students entering the Unified State Exam will take place from 3 to 9 August”, - Guzel Sagitova said.
There are also innovations in this year's enrollment campaign – applicants over the age of 18 will be able to sign documents at university enrollment committees. Previously, only legal representatives of applicants held this right. The signing of the contract for the paid educational services remains with parents and guardians.
The changes also affected the educational programs implemented at Kazan universities. “This year, a double degree program has appeared at Kazan National Research Technological University. Students of the “Technology and Polymer Processing” program, having successfully completed the first two courses, will be able to apply and continue their studies in the third and fourth courses in China. After completing their studies, graduates will receive two diplomas – Russian and Chinese”, - G.Sagitova noted.
Today there are 165 thousand students studying at 30 universities and 33 institutions of vocational secondary education in Kazan. Among them, 901 university students and 847 college students with disabilities.
In 2021, 46,364 students were enrolled, which is 15,712 more people than a year earlier. At the same time, the share of Kazan students has increased – out of 126 graduates with the highest score on the Unified State Exam, 67 chose to study in their hometown. The number of nonresident and foreign students in Kazan indicates the high demand for universities and the prestige of Kazan education.
