This year, the landscaping of three squares is being carried out: gardens of Love, Dance and Maidan
By autumn, the landscaping of three squares will be completed at Yunusovskaya Square in the Vakhitovsky city district: gardens of Love, Dance and Maidan. As of today, the work has been completed by 67%, the progress of repair work was inspected today by the Mayor of the city Ilsur Metshin.
Yunusovskaya Square was built in the second half of the XVIII century and was named after the merchants Yunusov. The first stage of landscaping began with the Garden of Sadness, which was opened after the renovation in September 2022. A new road surface, a lawn with automatic watering, thematic fences were installed here. The square was equipped with a video surveillance system and outdoor lighting.
More than 2,500 flowering shrubs and plants have been planted. Architectural forms in the old Tatar style were installed - chairs, an information desk and litter bins. A fountain in the shape of a functioning water column has become a central element.
This year, the landscaping of the gardens of Love, Dance and Maidan has begun. Thematic architectural forms will also be installed: benches, chairs, litter bins. Squares will be decorated with plants such as mountain ash, hydrangea, sedum, coneflower, and others.
As of today, the side stones have been laid, paving stones have been laid by 75%, wooden flooring – by 70%. The installation of a sowing lawn, video surveillance and automatic watering systems, outdoor lighting is more than half completed. Installation of small architectural forms is completed by 30%.
Arina Khasanova, the chief architect of the projects of the City Development Institute, noted that the history of the Old Tatar Settlement inspired designers when creating the landscaping project. There were meetings with old-timers who told how Yunusovskaya Square looked in the past.
“I remember well when, on the eve of the Universiade, our honorary resident of the city Nurania Biktemirova spoke about this garden, - Ilsur Metshin shared his memories. - Unfortunately, she has already passed away. Other old-timers also took an active part. But then we could not even dream that this square would appear in the near future, and it really looks like what the old-timers told us.”
The Mayor thanked the architects for the love and attention to the history of the Old Tatar settlement they approached the reconstruction of Yunusovskaya Square.
As Arina Khasanova noted, despite the fact that all squares are united by one concept, each will have its own features. “For example, there is a Berkutov House in the Maidan Garden – it is an object of cultural heritage. It is blue in color, so here we plant bluish-lilac plants. And the Yunusov — Apanayev House is located in the garden of Love and it will be complemented by vegetation in red-pink shades,”- explained the chief architect of the projects of the City Development Institute.
The uniqueness of the squares will also be taken into account during cultural and entertainment events. As the head of the Directorate of Parks and Squares of the city Aigul Latypova explained, poetry readings in Russian and Tatar are already being held in the garden of Sadness, and in the garden of Love it is planned to carry put a marriage registration.
“Of course, we plan to connect it with the embankment of Kaban Lake. Firstly, it is a popular location among tourists. It is very connected with the Old Tatar Settlement, we have many events that promote the study of the Tatar language, the preservation of Tatar culture and the identity of the Tatar outfit. We plan to duplicate all the same things here,”- Aigul Latypova shared.
Igor Kulyazhev, Deputy head of the Executive Committee of the city, and Albert Salikhov, head of the administration of the Vakhitovsky and Privolzhsky city districts, also took part in the visiting meeting.
Eight public spaces of Kazan are planned to be landscaped this year. In addition to Yunusovskaya Square, work is underway in Gorky Park, Fisherman’s garden and other sites.
