The Rais of Tatarstan and the Kazan Mayor inspect the reconstruction of the Kazan Bogoroditsky Monastery and the Memorial Church for Fallen Soldiers

Interior finishing work and facade cladding is being completed at the Church of Fallen Soldiers, and the installation of a dome cross has also been completed at St. Nicholas of Tula Church

Today, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov accompanied by the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin paid a visit to the most significant religious sites of the city.

They began the tour with a visit to the Kazan Bogoroditsky Monastery, which is undergoing a restoration as part of a list of instructions given by the Rais of Tatarstan. The work being done includes restoring the Church of St. Nicholas of Tula, the abbess's building, a building for nuns, and a parish school. These buildings were awarded the status of regional cultural heritage sites this year.

To date, work has been completed on strengthening the soils and foundations, restoring the brickwork of the walls, recreating the ceilings and internal partitions of the facilities, the facade of the Church of St. Nicholas of Tula has also been restored, including the installation of the dome and cross.

The memorial temple for fallen soldiers, built in 1823, is a federal cultural heritage site.

The memorial temple is located on the waterfront of the Kazanka River and is connected to the shore by a bridge. It is a 20-meter-high quadrangular pyramid raised on a pedestal. A large-scale restoration project began last year.

The work on strengthening the coastline, installing groove fencing, strengthening and installing waterproofing in the basement and on the first floor of the temple was completed. Brickwork on the basement walls was restored and a crowning cross installed. Interior finishing works, reconstruction of entrances, stairs, porticos, and stucco decoration are being completed, as well as the installation of historical stairs, restoration of the roof, and construction of stone fencing at the monument. Landscaping of the adjacent territory is also underway.
