From 1 to 10 October, a decade of elderly people will take place in Kazan. Retired persons will be able to visit baths and city museums free, take part in online events and sports competitions, as well as get medical advice. Currently, more than 304 thousand elderly people live in the capital of Tatarstan. “This is actually a quarter of the population of our city, this is our support. Experience, wisdom, responsibility -these are the features of our older generation, - said the head of the Executive Committee of Kazan Rustem Gafarov at the Business Monday. -Each of them has an uneasy path behind them, so we are thankful for the support from the federal budget, which was allocated by the decision of the Russian President”.

Rustem Gafarov stressed that many events are positively resonated by thousands of elderly Kazan residents. “The Decade motivates to express respect for our veterans and show additional care. I instruct all structural divisions and institutions involved in the organization of the Decade of the elderly to show maximum attention and care”, - R.Gafarov said.

One of the most popular events among elderly people is the “Zhiznelub” project, said Guzel Sagitova, deputy head of the Executive Committee. Under the project, healthy lifestyle and development of a creative potential is promoted among elderly.

The Third Age sports contest, the Kazan Athletics Championship among veterans are held for elderly Kazan residents, in addition, they participate in the Cross Country Race of Nations and Ski Run of Russia.

This year, some traditional events in cultural institutions will be held online due to the epidemiological situation in the country. The festive concerts will be broadcast on the official pages in social networks.

Taking into account the recommendations of Rospotrebnadzor (Federal Service for Supervision of Consumers Protection), special book exhibitions and festive events with the participation of elderly people will be organized in city libraries. “During the Decade, retired citizens will be able to visit municipal museums for free. In addition, thematic excursions, musical lectures, master classes, as well as theatrical events will also take place”, - the deputy head of the Executive Committee noted.

Charity events will be held in all districts of the city to provide material, social, psychological and other assistance to the elderly. Special attention will be paid to the health of the elderly. As G.Sagitova noted, specialists of healthcare institutions will visit lonely elderly disabled patients at home during the Decade.

“On October 1, special events to provide feasible assistance to lonely elderly people will start at the educational institutions of the city. The employment centers of the city will advise the elderly on labor and employment issues during October”, - G.Sagitova said.

On October 1 - the day of the elderly, pensioners will be able to use the services of the municipal baths free.

In the first decade of October, the hotline phones for social issues will start working for the elderly in all district administrations of the city.
