A sports ground to be equipped on the site of the collapsed underground car park on Universiade Avenue

Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin and Marat Zaripov, head of the State Housing Fund of the republic, inspected the progress of work.

On Universiade Avenue in the Privolzhsky district of Kazan, the yard is being improved on the site of a collapsed underground car park. By the end of August, the long-awaited territory for recreation and sports will be arranged for over 2 thousand residents of houses No. 10, 12, 14 and 16. The progress of the work was inspected by the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin and Marat Zaripov, Executive Director of the Presidential State Housing Fund of the republic.

The Mayor of Kazan highly appreciated the current results of the improvement. “I remember when the underground car park collapsed. Despite the challenges and court procedures, the Presidential State Housing Fund of the republic in a close cooperation with the residents of the apartment buildings managed to find the solution for the improvement of the territory. As a result, this yard will soon be transformed”, - Ilsur Metshin said.

An underground car park, built in 2014 in the yard of four apartment buildings on Universiade Avenue, collapsed through the fault of the contracting organization. After that, a trial began between the State Housing Fund of Tatarstan, which represented the interests of residents, and the contractor responsible for the construction of the car park. The lawsuit lasted for 5 years, during which no landscaping was carried out on this territory, since this could interfere with the objective assessment by the court of the cause of the collapse.

“At the time of the proceedings, the territory of the yard was fenced, the residents did not have any infrastructure for recreation and walking”, - said Marat Zaripov. After the completion of the trials in September 2021, preparatory work began – the pit at the parking site was filled in.

The landscaping of the yard with a total area of 2.5 hectares began in mid-July. In a month, asphalt pavement was laid here and 59 parking lots were equipped. After the completion of the work, 144 parking lots will be available for residents in the yard. At the initiative of the State Housing Fund of Tatarstan, an intra-block passage with an area of 2.1 thousand square meters will also be renovated.

The outlines of proposed recreation and sport area have already appeared. All of them will be linked by sports. The yard project was designed by the architectural and construction company Space for Soul Architects.

A cozy recreation area will be arranged in the yard, where a fir tree will be planted, which can be decorated during the New Year holidays. In addition, there will be a football and volleyball court, a workout area and a bike path, as well as a playground with swings, slides, a sandbox and a maze. In total, 22 small architectural forms and 54 pieces of outdoor equipment, including urns, benches, chairs and others, will be installed in the yard.

Currently, 20 workers and 5 special vehicles are engaged the yard improvement. “As of today, all work has been completed by 65%. The workers will have to landscape the yard, install small architectural forms and connect lighting to existing networks”, - Elvir Khamidullin, a contractor, shared the plans. In total, at the request of residents, 48 trees and 71 shrubs will be planted in the yard, as well as 27 lighting poles will be connected.
