Robotics, programming and drama art classes at the first center in Tatarstan for children with intellectual disabilities.
The Simurg (fairy bird) first inclusive recreational center in Kazan opens at the Ekiyat children's puppet theater. The facility with an area of 240 sq.m, created with the support of the “V tvou polzu” charity foundation, is designed for children aged 7 to 14 years.
The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin and Tatarstan Minister of Culture Irada Ayupova visited the new inclusive center. The head of the city noted that the opening of the facility formed the basis for a big work. “We have created conditions for children with special needs at sports venues, nevertheless culture, clubs and theater still need to be developed. We are developing a very important area. It is important to start and to see the result. What we are already seeing in this center suggests that we are moving in the absolutely right direction,”- the Mayor said.
The Simurg is the first inclusive recreational center for children with intellectual disabilities not only in Kazan, but also in Tatarstan. The idea to create an inclusive children's center in the capital of Tatarstan was presented by the “V tvou polzu” charity foundation, which was one of the first in Kazan to start working with children with autism. The foundation helped to establish the first resource classes at schools No.1 and No.97, as well as inclusive groups in kindergarten No.109. The idea was supported by the deputy of the Russian State Duma Ilya Volfson. The rooms for the center were allocated free of charge by Tatarstan Ministry of Culture, the repair was carried out with the support of Tatarstan Ministry of Construction, Architecture and Housing.
Now there are 3 classes in the center: programming, robotics and drama art studio. Yuri Tsepkov, teacher with a specialized education and received retraining to work with special children, works in the center. He, like all teachers of the center, works under his author's program.
Children performed their skills to the Mayor. So, one of the students showed the Labyrinth game, which she developed as a homework task.
Then the head of the city went to the theater studio, where children master scenic speech and acting skills. The teacher Yana Tsepkova, who previously worked with children with mental disorders, conduct these classes. Now the children are preparing a performance for the holiday.
The stage is equipped with ramps, there are special boxes for storing inventory. There are also 2 bathrooms in the center, one of which is adapted for children with disabilities. Next year it is planned to open additional classes and a craft workshop where children will be able to learn modeling. In addition, it is planned that the center will begin to educate children with more complex disorders.
I.Metshin also talked with the parents of special children, who noted that the center has become a real gift and the teachers are very attentive to children.
The Mayor of Kazan, in turn, made a proposal to create a special educational website for parents of special children, which will collect recommendations from specialists. He was supported by Tatarstan Minister of Culture Irada Ayupova.
