A schoolboy from the capital of the republic of Tatarstan became a two-time winner of the International Olympiad of Informatics
Gimran Abdullin, a student of boarding school №2, won gold for the second time at the International Olympiad of Informatics. The competition was held in Alexandria (Egypt) on September 1 - 8, with the participation of more than 350 schoolchildren from 90 countries. Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of the capital of Tatarstan, congratulated the Kazan schoolboy on his victory.
“It is worth a lot to become the winner of this Olympiad. Gimran is a talented guy, and I got the most positive impressions from a personal meeting with him. The guy moved from Bashkortostan to study in Kazan. Last year, they wanted to take him to Moscow, but thank you for making the decision to continue studying in the capital of Tatarstan. Let's do everything possible to ensure that he receives higher education here,”- Ilsur Metshin said.
For reference, Gimran Abdullin became one of the best among 360 schoolchildren from 90 countries at a similar Olympiad in 2023. Upon arrival from Hungary, the Mayor of Kazan met with the student.
“Such victories are a combination of talent, perseverance, and hard work of the student and teachers. Good job! This once again confirms the high level of Kazan education. I ask you to convey congratulations to Gimran, and I will be happy to see him again in my office,”- the head of the city said.
The Olympiad of Informatics consisted of two rounds, each lasting five hours. Participants made three algorithmic sums in each round.
“These are individual talents - they must be nurtured and cherished. Knowledge must be continuously perfected. I remember well when we created the first Olympiad center back in Nizhnekamsk and established it with Ilsur Garaevich (Tatarstan Minister of Education and Science, ed.) in Kazan. He said that talents need to be supported, and mediocrity will break through on their own. Our task and responsibility is to support these talents in everything," the mayor said.
International Olympiad of Informatics –is an annual computer science competition for schoolchildren. The Olympiad has been held since 1989. Winning the competition provides the opportunity to enroll in any university in the world. This year, Moscow schoolchildren Daria Grekova, Ivan Piskarev, and Pyotr Losev also took part in the Olympiad together with Gimran Abdullin as part of the Russian national team.
