Last year, more than 1,200 road traffic accidents were recorded in the city
In 2025, a decrease in the main accident rates was recorded in Kazan – 1,226 accidents, which is 53 less than in 2024. Thirty-one people were killed in road accidents, 1,473 were injured. The Kazan Executive Committee held a meeting of the Commission on Road Safety, where they discussed a set of measures to prevent dangerous driving. The head of the Executive Committee Rustem Gafarov led the meeting.
Mikhail Savin, head of the Kazan State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, reported on the results of 2025: a decrease in road accidents was recorded on the roads of the capital of Tatarstan. Last year, 1,226 road accidents were registered in the city, in which 31 people died and 1,473 were injured. Compared to 2024, the number of accidents decreased by 53, the number of injured by 44, and the deaths by seven.
However, the beginning of 2026 raises concern. As of February 6, as many as 77 road accidents were registered in Kazan, in which three people were killed and 110 were injured. Despite the fact that the total number of accidents and injuries has decreased, the number of deaths has increased – three deaths compared to two in the same period last year.
An analysis of fatal accidents shows that arrival on pedestrians and car collisions continue to pose the greatest threat. In 2025, 11 people died in 402 collisions, three of them in jaywalking. Eight more died as a result of collisions when driving into the oncoming lane and crossing violations.
Road conditions are also crucial. About 11% of accidents occurred due to the unsatisfactory maintenance of the road network.
The commission was particularly concerned about the increase in gross traffic violations. In January 2026, the number of cases of driving at a red light almost doubled. Automatic recording cameras recorded 461 such violations in a month, and 84 of them were repeated. Thus, every seventh driver who ignored the red light did so deliberately, despite the risk of losing a license.
In addition, cases of «promotion» of offenses have been identified. The commission members were shown videos where drivers defiantly violate the rules for the sake of social media coverage.
