First-graders of school No.86 of the Sovetsky district got acquainted with a Labrador Oliver.
Today, first–graders of school No.86 of the Sovetsky district of Kazan got acquainted with a dog handler and his Labrador named Oliver. The class was held as part of the Week of Animal Care campaign.
The supplementary education teacher of the Children's Ecological and Biological Center, the head of the Kazan Police Dog Service Dmitry Dudkin spoke to the students. He told the students about his profession and why they should not be afraid of dogs, as well as how to behave with stray animals. “If we know everything about dogs, we won't be afraid of them,”- Dmitry Dudkin said, addressing students.
Talking about stray animals, the dog handler noted that stray dogs should not be provoked, because they can begin an attack trying to defend themselves. “If a dog comes up to you on the street, you should not make sudden movements, then a dog will just smell you and go away,”- D. Dudkin recommended. “Dogs get the information through their sense of smell.”
After completing the theoretical part, the dog handler introduced the first–graders to his ward, a Labrador named Oliver. As Dmitry Dudkin said, the pet is only 4 months old. Oliver is now being trained to serve in the police in the future. The dog handler showed what commands the dog already executes, and shared information about Labradors. At the end of the class, the children had an opportunity to ask their questions.
Dmitry Dudkin works at the Kazan Children's Ecological and Biological Center and teaches schoolchildren from 7 to 12 years old in the class “Young Dog Handler”. “After such meetings, many people want to join our group. We will be glad to welcome you in the new academic year,” - he said.
The classes for children are conducted to teach a humane and responsible treatment of animals, said Yulia Lykina, deputy director of the Children's Ecological and Biological Center, who also attended the lesson. According to her, the center conducts such classes regularly to draw attention to the problem of stray animals. A lesson with dog handlers for children with disabilities will be held in Kazan next week.
