Kazan residents will have the opportunity to observe the convergence of planets and the Moon, as well as the Perseid star fall

The peak of this celestial event will take place on August 12

Next week, Kazan resident will have an opportunity to observe the approaching of planets to the Moon. On July 30, Mars will draw near to Earth's satellite, and on the evening of July 31 and August 1, Jupiter will be seen next to the evening star.

“This does not mean that planets are only visible during this time in the sky. During this period, amateur astronomers will be able to see them more easily with the naked eye,”- explained Yuri Nefediev, Director of the Astronomical Observatory and Professor of Astronomy and Space Geodesy at KFU's Institute of Physics.

Two major meteor showers - the Southern Delta Aquariids and Perseids - have already started. However, citizens will see the peak of the most intense star fall from the Perseids in the night sky on August 12, according to the astronomer.

“On August 12, there will be a peak of this event - about 60 meteors per hour. The comet Swift-Tuttle orbits the Sun every 135 years, and the last time it came close to Earth was in 1992, when a fairly intense meteor shower was observed - up to 300-400 meteors,”- said Yuri Nefediev.

The best time to view the night sky is after 11pm, as the intensity of the meteor shower is higher in the second half of the night. Yuri Nefediev also advised avoid using optical devices, as the eyes can scan the entire sky and a meteor may strike at any point or time.
