Kazan became first among Russian million-population cities by the number of eliminated illegal landfills

Kazan and Novosibirsk got an excellent mark for effective work with citizens’ complaints.

(KZN.RU, October 10). Kazan became first among Russian million-population cities by the number of illegal landfills identified and eliminated. The rating was compiled by activists of the All-Russian Popular Front on the basis of the “Interactive Landfill Card”, as well as information about the measures taken by the authorities in response to complaints from citizens. Dmitry Mironov, the moderator of the thematic platform of the RPF “Ecology”, said that during the research and ranking, first of all, attention was focused more on the elimination of landfills, not on the number of identified in total.

337 complaints were received in Kazan. The problem was resolved in 290 cases. The city has earned an excellent rating for such high rates. Novosibirsk is in second place (64 out of 85 dumps). Those cities that turned out to be lower than Kazan and Novosibirsk were rated as fair. Thus, Voronezh, Perm, Krasnoyarsk, Moscow, Rostov-on-Don, Omsk, Krasnodar are following them. There are no “good” grades in the rating. Ekaterinburg and Chelyabinsk were among the outsiders with a minimum number of positive decisions on received complaints.

The rating was compiled as part of work on the “May Decree” of the President of the Russian Federation. One of its points was the elimination of unauthorized dumps within cities. The RPF will send the obtained data to the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia.
