The new branch, which is called «The Zambezi River. Africa», will continue to work.
The historical part of Kazan Zoo will be closed to visitors until spring. During this time, the animals will remain in their enclosures and the keepers will continue taking care of them.
Currently, the historical area of the zoo houses Altai elks, sheep, sika deer, reptiles, two brown bears, birds of prey, and other animals that can tolerate cold temperatures. With the onset of winter, the pets will be fed more frequently and their food will be more high-energy. Their enclosures will also be insulated, with infrared lamps turned on for the birds and shelter houses provided for the hoofed animals.
Enhanced nutrition is also important for animals that hibernate, such as brown bears and raccoons, who gain fat in preparation for cold weather.
The diets of primates living in a new part of the zoo have also changed, with feline lemurs, green and Brazza monkeys, and other animals receiving additional vitamins in their food.
The historic part of the zoo will reopen in spring. New part of the Zoon «The Zambezi River. Africa» will continue working.
The zoo hosts 134 different species of animals, and since the beginning of the year, there were more than 746,000 visitors.
