Ilsur Metshin meets the Mayor of Guangzhou

The heads of the two cities discussed cooperation in sports, tourism, landscaping, economy and entrepreneurship

Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin and Guangzhou Mayor Guo Yonghang discussed cooperation between the two cities. The meeting took place in the capital of the Chinese province of Guangdong. The parties agreed to study the experience, as well as to exchange best practices in urban economy and develop joint projects.

During the visit, Ilsur Metshin visited the Guangzhou City Planning Exhibition Center and the Municipal Office. The head of the capital of Tatarstan got acquainted with the achievements of Guangzhou in construction, plans for the development of the city, and municipal educational system.

In the Canton Tower, the Mayor of Kazan met with the Mayor of Guangzhou. Guo Yonghang noted that since the signing of the agreement on the conclusion of twinning relations between the cities, close and friendly ties have developed, and a solid foundation for future cooperation has been laid. The Mayor of Guangzhou stressed that trade and economic relations are developing between Russia and China, the countries are exchanging experience in tourism, sports and culture. The main tasks for today are to reach a higher level of mutually beneficial cooperation, Guo Yonghang believes.

In turn, Ilsur Metshin expressed gratitude for the support in economic development of Kazan, which Guangzhou has been providing since the establishment of twinning relations. The Mayor of the capital of the republic of Tatarstan noted that Kazan will contribute to strengthening cooperation in sports, science and technology, education, youth exchange, and strive to create an exemplary model of cooperation.

At the end of the meeting, Ilsur Metshin invited the Mayor of Guangzhou to visit the Games of the Future, which will be held in Kazan in February 2024. Guo Yonghang, as the head of the city, which is one of the centers of cybersports in China, expressed his readiness to visit Tatarstan.

Kazan and Guangzhou have been twin cities since 2012. The cities plan to participate in joint events, such as the round table of Mayors at the Kazan Digital Week forum and the Canton Exhibition in Guangzhou. Earlier, representatives of Guangzhou visited the Russia-Chinese forum in Kazan.

Guangzhou and Kazan are members of the World Association of Cities and the World Organization United Cities and Local Governments. During the 14th Metropolis World Congress, the Mayor of Kazan was elected regional Vice-President of the organization and headed the Eurasia section. Guangzhou Mayor Guo Yonghang is the co-president of Metropolis.
