8655 war veterans and home front workers in Kazan will receive jubilee medals.
Today, the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin congratulated 95-year-old citizen of the capital of Tatarstan, veteran of the Great Patriotic War Nikolai Aksyonov on the occasion of Victory Day. The Mayor came to visit a veteran who lives in the Aviastroitelny district on Belinsky street with his wife Nadezhda.
“You, your fellow soldiers and all who fought in the trenches, gave a clear sky and the right to a peaceful life to us, the next generation, - Metshin addressed the veteran. - You did an incredible thing-defended the country, and then revived it. I bow down to you for your courage, heroism and fortitude”.
Nikolai Aksyonov said that he was born in the Rostov region, in the village of Tarasovka. N.Aksyonov heard about the beginning of the war when he was a student in Rostov-on-Don. In 1942, Nikolai left for army.
For three months N. Aksyonov was trained in drill, then he was sent to the 2nd Belorussian front, where he commanded a section of the 563rd Rifle Regiment of the 173rd Infantry Division. The veteran took part in the battles for liberating Belarus. In one of the battles, he was badly wounded. The war ended up for him in 1944 - he was invalided home for health reasons.
The Mayor of Kazan wished the couple health, well-being and long life and awarded Nikolai Aksyonov a jubilee medal on the 75th anniversary of the Victory day. The Mayor also presented the veteran a greeting card from the Tatarstan President, a food package and a CD with songs of wartime.
