The number of rope access technicians hired to clean roofs has increased eightfold compared to previous years
Kazan continues to deal with the consequences of severe snowstorms that hit the city in late January and February. According to the head of the Kazan Housing and Utilities Services Committee, housing workers are working to the limit. Since the beginning of February, 18,000 tons of snow have been removed from the yards, and more than 500 rope access technicians have cleaned the roofs of apartment buildings, which is eight times more than last year. Journalists from the city and republican media visited the yard at 42 Vosstaniya Street to see the janitors at work.
This winter has become a serious challenge for property management companies. The total area of asphalt pavement in Kazan yards is almost 10 million square meters. This is comparable to the area of all main city roads. But the highways are cleaned by snow cleaning vehicles, while the yards are cleaned by the janitors and small cleaning vehicles.
Taking into account the fact that most of the yards have already been cleared several times since the beginning of heavy snowfall in late January, Kazan housing workers have removed snow from 13,334 yards.
Every day, 1,400 janitors and more than 350 snow cleaning vehicles are involved in cleaning of the city. However, there is a shortage of workers – the city lacks almost 900 janitors. To close the gap in the conditions of heavy snowfalls, this winter property management companies attracted record resources, increasing the number of leased cleaning vehicles to 200 in addition to the 150 vehicles already available.
In addition, yards take more time to clean than streets, as they are narrowed and heavily parked, the speaker added. Because of them, cleaning vehicles sometimes simply cannot enter the yard.
A technological solution to this problem was found in Kazan: a special chatbot for communicating with car owners via Telegram. The master of the site goes around the yard and enters the license plates of the cars into the system. A few minutes later, the owner receives a call asking him not to block traffic. Max messenger is also used for communication with the residents.
