I.Metshin: “Public transport is a priority, we are developing bus lanes in the new and reconstructed roads”

A non-conductor route has been launched in Kazan, as well as an unmanned train control system in the metro has been introduced.

An automated train control system has been introduced in the Kazan metro, in addition, the first non-conductor trolleybus route has been launched since today. Aidar Abdulkhakov, Director General of the MUE Metroelektrotrans told about the modernization of the municipal electric transport today at the Business Monday meeting.

The introduction of an automated train control system is an important step towards the transition to unmanned control of electric trains. “An unmanned metro will reduce the risk of the human error when driving a vehicle and, thereby, significantly increases the safety of transportation. With the financing of the project, we can create the first unmanned metro in Russia”, - A.Abdulkhakov shared the plans.

Modernization is also being carried out in the ground electric transport fleet. From today, trolleybus route No.2 has completely switched to fare payment, which has been tested since August 1. According to A. Abdulkhakov, the system is already working in major cities of Russia: a passenger pays at the entrance for cash, or pays by bank or transport card in the cabin independently. So, in Kazan, 3 electronic composters are installed on the handrails in each trolleybus of this route.

“We plan to analyze the results of the operation of the fare system on route No.2 after three months of operation”, - the speaker explained.

At the same time, work is underway to update the vehicle fleet. In total, about 25 trolleybuses are planned to be updated next year in Kazan.

“We have the newest public transport. We continue to upgrade and purchase it. Probably, many Kazan residents are already used to this and will not understand why we are so proud of low-floor transport. But this is a convenience for passengers, so that they can comfortably and effortlessly use a tram, trolleybus and bus”, - the Mayor of Kazan said.
