I.Metshin: “We plan to carry out not only capital repairs, but capital construction at this facility”

The renovation of the Molodaya Gvardiya children's camp will be completed by September

A large-scale renovation of the Molodaya Gvardiya sports and recreation camp is planned to be completed by September in Kazan. After renovation, it will be used year-round. The canteen has already been overhauled, new buildings were built, some of them were insulated for year-round recreation of children in the oldest camp in the city. Today, the progress of the work was inspected by the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin.

To date, external utilities are being installed in the camp, a club with a hall for 280 seats is being completed, the adjacent territory will be landscaped, and a medical center will be insulated. On the territory of the camp there will be a 90x60 m football pitch with bleachers for 200 seats, where tournaments of different levels will be held. After the renovation, the capacity of Molodaya Gvardiya will increase from 242 to 280 children per shift – more than 1,100 children will be able to rest there in the summer season.

“Traditionally, a lot of work is carried out during the preparation for the summer holidays. This year, more than 15 thousand children will rest in 27 camps of Kazan,”- the Mayor said. The Mayor noted that the Molodaya Gvardiya camp was built 90 years ago, and the reconstruction was carried out 60 years ago. “Finally, we plan to carry out not only capital repairs, but also with capital construction at this facility: 10 new residential buildings, some of them will work year-round, a spacious club and sports infrastructure. There is everything for children to rest in good, comfortable, environmentally friendly conditions to gain strength and prepare for new sports records,”- he added.

Ten new dormitory blocks for 30 children each, 2 staff buildings and 2 warehouses, a complex of showers with saunas, a medical center and a checkpoint were built to replace old wooden buildings. In the cold season, 4 residential buildings, a staff room, a canteen and a medical center will be heated.

Minnegarai Nasibullin, director of the contractor organization Remontstroyservice reported the Mayor that painting works are being carried out in the dormitory blocks and administrative buildings. The construction of the club is 40% completed, the construction workers have started the facade works. The Mayor looked around the club under construction. It will have a hall with 280 seats, a stage, a storeroom for costumes and decorations, rooms for artists and a workshop. Here, the Mayor was presented with the camp's logo, it depicts a pioneer tie, and the color scheme is taken from a Soviet poster. The Mayor approved one of the designs, but instructed to finalize the color solutions.

Ilsur Metshin also visited one of the dormitory blocks. They have bedrooms, bathrooms with showers, toilets, laundry, drying and ironing rooms, a pantry, as well as a hall that serve as a recreation area.

I.Metshin proposed to open a museum in one of the preserved buildings – tens of thousands of Kazan residents have rested in it for almost a century of the camp's history. The museum, recreating the life of the pioneer camp, will consist of several zones – a dining room, a medical ward, a library hall and a hall with guitars and bicycles.

Running tracks and a jumping zone will be built in the camp for athletics training, a workout area and a mini-football pitch will be equipped. Earlier, basketball and volleyball courts were built on the territory of the camp according to republican programs. Molodaya Gvardiya is a camp that traditionally trained sports youth, juniors, and teams. Therefore, together with the children, parents and coaches, we are looking forward to the opening.”- the Mayor noted.
