E. Lodvigova: “Kazan has never seen such financing for the renewal of the roadway as it has been in recent years”

Over the past two years, it was possible to repair more roads in Kazan than in the previous five years.

(KZN.RU, October 22, Ksenia Shvetsova). 12.5 billion rubles have been allocated for road works in Kazan for two years, taking into account the financing of the priority project “Safe and High-Quality Roads”. For every ruble allocated from the federal budget, the republic allocated 5 more. As a result, 81% of roads and 73% of yard territories in Kazan have been repaired for today. Igor Kulyazhev, the deputy head and the chairman of the Committee for External Improvement, reported on the implementation of road repair work this year today at the Business Monday.

An additional impulse to the increase in the volume of roadworks was given by the federal priority project “Safe and High-Quality Roads”, which started in 2017. Thanks to this project, as well as funds allocated from the budget of the republic, the total length of the street-road network of Kazan has increased by 42 km over 5 years. Now, it is 1888 km. In recent years, 13.6 million square meters of roads have been overhauled, and the average width the roadway increased to 11 meters, reported I. Kulyazhev. “For the last two years, we managed to repair the roads more than in the previous five years”, noted the speaker. He reminded that the city had made a big step ahead of major sporting events: the roads were repaired along the routes of the Confederations Cup and the World Cup.

This year more than 6 billion rubles were allocated for the implementation of roadworks. 1.6 billion are for the project “Safe and High-Quality Roads”, 3.5 billion rubles are funds for bringing the road network to a normal state, and another 1 billion allocated for the repair of yard areas. Following the implementation of roadworks, 122 urban and 60 settlement streets, 430 yards were repaired in the current year, which is 20% more than last year.

“Today, 81% of roads in Kazan are in good condition, whereas six years ago this figure was two times less”, said I. Kulyazhev. If last year Kazan occupied the third place in the rating of cities as a road sector with a population of over 250 thousand people, this year it has already risen to the second.

Evgenia Lodvigova, the deputy head of the Kazan Municipality, noted that the result of the work carried out is visible to all residents of the city. The roads are gradually being overhauled not only in the center, but also in other districts, settlements, and even in garden societies. “We came close to what seemed unrealizable. 12.5 billion rubles were allocated over two years to repair the road surface. These are the volumes that allow maintaining roads in a standard condition”, said E. Lodvigova. “We cannot say that everyone is satisfied, of course. 19% of the roads are still waiting in the coming years. But cursing Kazan roads today means being nonobjective”. She also added that as the traffic flow increases, it is necessary to constantly increase the volumes of the repaired canvas and the quality of repairs.

In general, within the framework of the project “Safe and High-Quality Roads”, 39 streets were repaired this year, the main of which were involved during the World Cup, reported I. Kulyazhev. In addition, 30 km of galvanized security barriers, more than 1.5 thousand road signs with a fluorescent coating were installed, 93 traffic lights were updated and 40 artificial road irregularities were installed at 93 areas of traffic accidents concentration. “The work is underway to eliminate 80 newly discovered places of concentration of accidents. It is scheduled to be completed by the end of November”, said the speaker.

In total, 83 city streets and 31 pavements were repaired in the framework of fixing the road network in Kazan. At the same time, other improvement programs were also taken into account. For example, as I. Kulyazhev reminded, a road was repaired along Dekabristov Street.

New road sections appear in order to ensure the transport accessibility of residents of new residential areas of the city. Due to the upcoming unfavorable weather conditions for roadworks, the unfinished works will be continued next year.

“Certainly, without the support of the President of the RT, we would still patch holes. Kazan has never seen such financing for the renewal of the roadway as it has been in recent years”, said E. Lodvigova.

In addition to the roads, the renewal of the driveways in the yards of the city continues in Kazan. This year, as part of the road works, landscaping of 430 yards was carried out with a total area of 457 thousand square meters. Management companies installed children's play complexes, sports equipment, and benches in 32 yards that are subject to complex improvement, in addition to repairing the asphalt concrete pavement.

In the landscaped yards, an additional 5000 parking spots were equipped, and the total number of courtyards improved since 2011 has increased by 29000, reported I. Kulyazhev.

In total, 6 large contract road organizations worked on Kazan roads this year, they laid over 750 thousand tons of asphalt concrete on road objects.

E. Lodvigova marked that the repair of the pavement in the yards is one of the most important components of the development of urban space. “73% of the yards that needed to be repaired are in fixed today. This is a great achievement. In 2010, the problem seemed simply unsolvable. And today, there is only a quarter of the unrepaired yards remained, but they are already scheduled for works”, concluded the Vice-Mayor.
