More than 20 new geriatric offices will open in Tatarstan by the end of 2020

Health schools for the elderly are also being established in the republic.

By the end of this year, it is planned to open 21 new geriatric offices in Tatarstan for comprehensive medical care to elderly residents of the republic. Presently, there are 51 such offices in Tatarstan. Vladimir Zhavoronkov, Deputy Minister of Health of Tatarstan – the head of Department of health in Kazan, told about it today at a briefing at the Cabinet of Ministers.

Vladimir Zhavoronkov also said that in addition to 50 geriatric offices, 175 geriatric beds were deployed in medical facilities of the republic, and this year the republican geriatric center was opened in Kazan on the basis of the war veteran's hospital.

“We have been working in this direction for several years, - he added. – The population is provided with comprehensive care: we guide each patient, starting from the consultation of a physician, during treatment in a hospital and then during rehabilitation. We work not only with the patient, but also with his relatives – specialists explain how to care for an elderly person, how to communicate, and so on”.

After the opening of 21 new offices by the end of the year, geriatric care will be provided in 45 municipal districts of the republic, V.Zhavoronkov noted.

The development of a network of geriatric offices and specialized medical care for elderly is becoming more and more relevant every year, as the number of elderly people in the republic increases.

According to the Pension Fund, as of September 1, 2020, there are almost 316 thousand retired people in Kazan, which is a quarter of the population. More than 45 thousand residents are over 80. This year 67 Kazan citizens are 100 years old or more, among them 62 women and 5 men.
