Ilsur Metshin holds a meeting of the BRICS + Association of Cities and Municipalities in Tehran
The meeting was attended by representatives from Russia, China, Brazil, India, Indonesia, South Africa, and Iran.
A working meeting of the BRICS + Association of Cities and Municipalities took place in Tehran with participants from Russia, China, Brazil, India, Indonesia, South Africa, and Iran. The meeting was hosted by Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan and Chairman of the association.
During the meeting, Metshin proposed the creation of an effective mechanism for sharing experience and best practices in urban management, which would help BRICS+ cities solve some of the most pressing issues, particularly through the implementation of modern high-tech solutions.
“In today's rapidly changing world, the BRICS+ countries and cities face similar challenges. Despite cultural, religious, and environmental differences, we face environmental issues, the need for careful resource management, and the implementation of efficient and safe technologies. I believe that this list can be continued, “- said Ilsur Metshin.
Sun Xueqing, the Secretary General of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and Bheke Stofile, the President of the South African Local Government Association, also spoke at the meeting.
As an important incentive for municipalities, Ilsur Metshin proposed the establishment of an urbanism award, which will be awarded in five key areas: environmental, social, architectural, youth, digital, as well as in special and personal nominations, and a grand prize.
Another proposal of the Russian party was holding a Children's Festival of BRICS cities in science, art, and technology areas in Kazan.
The educational and cultural program of the festival to be structured around a series of specific themes. For instance, culinary workshops could be held on a day of cooking, during which participants would have the opportunity to prepare and taste traditional dishes from various countries. On the day of national costume, attendees could witness displays of ethnic dresses. The festival would culminate in a grand gala concert, where young performers from different nations would present their talents.
