(KZN.RU, December 25, Alina Berezhnaya). For 4 days from 24 to 27 of December, weather forecasters predict the half-monthly norm of precipitation in Kazan. Road services of the city are working in the enhanced mode. Every day, 560 road workers and more than 550 units of special equipment are involved in cleaning the snow on the streets of Kazan. Representatives of the city and republican mass media were able to see themselves the way the road and sidewalk cleaning was organized during the night press tour. Denis Kalinkin, the head of the Kazan Executive Committee, inspected the cleaning process as well.
The journalists visited two points: at the crossroads of streets Nazarbaev and Pavlyukhin and streets Sibgat Khakim and Bichurin. There, the streets were being cleaned of snow by sweepers, snow loaders, brush tractors, combined road machines, and other small mechanization. Cleaning was carried out in manual mode as well.
Albert Ibragimov, the deputy chairman of the Committee for External Improvement, said that cleaning of city roads takes place in several stages. “The main operation in case of snowfall is to treat the roads with anti-icing material, then the dispersal takes place after 2 hours. Then they proceed to the operation of the second stage that is the formation of snow rolls and loading and removal of snow”, said Albert Ibragimov.
Since the beginning of the year, about 80 thousand tons of snow have been removed from the streets of Kazan, about 3.5 thousand tons of reagent and about 16 thousand tons of sand-salt mixture were spent on the processing of road networks.
As a matter of priority, the central highways are being cleaned first. Also pavements, pedestrian crossings are in priority. Snow removal is carried out around the clock. However, the main forces will engage during the night hours. In case of heavy snowfall, traffic jams form on the roads, which hinders the passage of snow-cleaning machinery.
Every year the main problem in cleaning the city is incorrectly parked cars. As the workers told, usually residents are informed about the upcoming cleaning in a few hours advance, but they ignore requests to remove the cars. “We put up special information boards with a request to free the roadway, but this does not always help, because the citizens do not react to the signs. We have to speak individually with them. We additionally use small mechanized equipment in hard-to-reach places”, said Denis Eroshin, the chief engineer of the MUP “Gorodskoe Blagoustroistvo”.
Despite the sufficient amount of equipment, the city has a shortage of janitors. According to Albert Ibragimov, about 400 more people are needed.
According to weather forecasters, the weather will not get better in the coming days. Until December 27, the city will face heavy snowfalls and gusty wind. From the beginning of December, 22 mm of precipitation fell in the city, this is 53% of the December norm.
