Denis Kalinkin inspected the readiness of Kazan settlements for the spring flood

18 houses of the Samosyrovo Settlement are at risk.

(KZN.RU, March 19, Alina Berezhnaya). Denis Kalinkin, the head of the Executive Committee of the city, inspected the flood situation in the settlements of Kazan today. In particular, he visited the Samosyrovo Settlement. Ferdinant Timurkhanov, the head of the Civil Protection Directorate, reported on the readiness of the residential area for the spring flood.

Ferdinant Timurkhanov said that, in general, the weather in Kazan today is favorable for the safe going of the flood. With sudden and steady warming, flooding of lowland areas is possible. The main risks are in residential areas located in the lowlands and along the banks of the small rivers of the city since the bulk of the remaining snow during melting falls into the small rivers Kazanka, Kinderka, Vertlevka, Noksa, and Sukhaya.

The situation with possible flooding is sometimes aggravated by the local residents and businessmen erecting buildings in problem zones. Thus, in Samosyrovo Settlement along the Mamadyshskiy Tract, two private facilities were built without coordination of the parameters of the water flow. During construction, the ground was raised by 1.5 meters, which led to the blockage of the well, which helped the water outflow. Today, the level of snow cover in Samosyrovo reaches 1 meter. With sudden and steady warming, flooding of lowland areas is possible. In particular, 18 houses located on Mir Street are at risk, said Ferdinat Timurkhanov. “It complicates the passage of water and the filled well, now the flow pipes will not be able to cope with the flood water. Therefore, the meltwater will fall into the Noksa River”, explained the head of the Civil Protection Directorate.

The participants of the meeting during the inspection of the territory decided that if the territory was flooded, pumps would be installed at the problem site that could pump out water. In addition, a channel for water flow was cleaned at the problem site with the help of special equipment today.

According to the forecasts of the head of the Civil Protection Directorate, the spring flood will begin in the first half of April. Now the forces of rescuers and road services are thrown at preventing the consequences of the flood.

Thus, 3 km of drainage ditches were renewed, bulk barriers for meltwater were created, and clearing of small river channels was carried out in the city. “At present, there is an audit of pumping equipment in the underground passages. 1900 out of 4913 storm drains have already been cleaned, ladders are being prepared in organizations and management companies”, said F. Timurkhanov. In total, 150 emergency groups, 137 units of equipment, 147 pumps, and 810 ladders were prepared for a quick response. In addition, 12 temporary accommodation centers with a capacity of 2910 people have been organized.

Rescuers started apartment rounds in settlements that are at risk of flooding during the spring flood period. Employees of the Civil Protection Directorate conduct instruction of residents, handing out brochures, remind of security measures.

Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, spoke about the need to inform citizens. On the recent Business Monday, the Mayor instructed the heads of districts to be prepared for the spring flood. “This year there is a lot of snow. I especially ask the rescuers together with the district administrations to inform the population. This is the case when you need to work on this issue again, paying special attention to lonely elderly people”, said the Mayor.

Andrey Yakovlev, the first deputy head of the Sovetsky district of Kazan, and environmental supervision staff also attended the event.
