The Kazan delegation took part in the XV World Congress of World Heritage Cities

The main topic of the Congress was the development of tourism and the preservation of historical heritage.

(KZN.RU, June 6). From 3 to 5 of June, the XV World Congress of World Heritage Cities (OWHC) was held in Krakow, Poland. The delegation of Kazan, including Daria Sannikova, the director of the Tourism Promotion Committee, took part in the Congress.

Every two years, the World Congress of the OWHC brings together politicians and experts in the field of preserving historic cities. This year, its topic was “Heritage and Tourism: Local Communities and Guests Sharing Responsibilities”. The participants shared their experience in effectively solving problems in the tourism industry, and developed mechanisms for managing historic urban landscapes. D. Sannikova told the audience about Kazan’s experience in attracting tourists and preserving cultural heritage.

Congress participants and residents of Krakow were presented with Kazan souvenirs and treated with chak-chak at the special exhibition.

In addition, the event included an exhibition of posters telling about all the cities of world heritage and a youth video contest “If you had one day in a city of world heritage...”. Kazan schoolgirl Valeria Sindimirova took the first place in this competition.

The World Heritage Cities Organization (OWHC), an international non-governmental autonomous non-profit organization, was established on September 8, 1993. The headquarters of the organization is located in Canada. The OWHC includes more than 200 cities where the objects included in the UNESCO World Heritage List are located. The current Secretary-General of the OWHC is Denis Ricard (Quebec, Canada). Now there are 6 regional branches in OWHC. The center of the Eurasian region in 2003 was Kazan.
