On June 14, an exhibition of the Wanderers opens in the Kazan Kremlin

Masterpieces from the collection of the Tretyakov Gallery will be presented in the “Hermitage” until September 16.

(KZN.RU, June 13). From June 14 to September 16, the Kazan “Hermitage” will host an exhibition “The Wanderers: 1871-1902. From the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery”. This is the second project, which is implemented by the gallery in the “Kazan Kremlin”.

The exhibition halls of the center “Hermitage-Kazan” will feature works by Ilya Repin, Ivan Kramskoy, Vladimir Makovsky, Konstantin Makovsky, Illarion Pryanishnikov, Vasily Polenov, Ivan Shishkin, Viktor Vasnetsov, Isaak Levitan, and many other Russian masters of the Wanderers.

The exposition includes 57 works of outstanding artists of the second half of the XIX century and covers a period of several decades (1870-1900). Experts of the Tretyakov Gallery brought to Kazan 27 paintings from their permanent exhibition. In particular, a portrait of Adrian Prahov, painted by Ivan Kramskoy, drawn in 1879. Also, for the first time, Kazan citizens will be able to see paintings in original frames, those that artists themselves ordered for their paintings. In particular, there is the “Portrait of the artist Ilya Repin” by Vasily Polenov in such a frame.

The works presented at the exhibition are masterpieces of the Moscow collection and reveal the evolution of the art of the late XIX century, demonstrate the movement from realism to impressionism and modernity, reports the press service of the “Hermitage”.

An artistic phenomenon of the Wanderers arose in the 70s of the XIX century. In 1871, the first exhibition was held in St. Petersburg. In Kazan, paintings of the Wanderers were exhibited in 1874 and 1886. Picturing of the authenticity of being, the acutest moments of the surrounding life are the demands that were put forward by art in the 1870s and 80s.
