The volume of e-commerce in Kazan has grown 1.5 times – the capital of the republic of Tatarstan is among the leaders in Russia

A turnover of Kazan food service enterprises is ahead of other cities with the exception of Moscow and St. Petersburg.

In 2021, the trade industry in Kazan recovered losses of 2020 caused by the pandemic. Retail trade turnover for 9 months amounted to 206.7 billion rubles, while Kazan went out on top among other Russian million-person cities in turnover of catering enterprises. The food service industry of Kazan is being recovered from the losses caused by coronavirus restrictions. Thus, the catering industry turnover from January to September 2021 amounted to 9 billion 619 million rubles. It can be predicted that by the end of 2021, the indicators will return to pre-pandemic 2019, when the turnover amounted to 11.8 billion rubles.

In addition, Kazan is significantly ahead of other Russian million-person cities in food service turnover (with the exception of Moscow and St. Petersburg). Yekaterinburg is in second place with a turnover of 6 billion 916 million rubles in this industry, Novosibirsk is in third place with 5.5 billion rubles.

Over the year, Kazan has increased a high-quality retail capacity, but the capital of Tatarstan occupies only 9th place in terms of capacity per 1000 people. Samara, Yekaterinburg and Nizhny Novgorod have more retail capacity. The peculiarity of last year was that more retail stores of large retail chains opened in Kazan than shopping malls. In 2021, the Leroy Merlin hypermarket opened at the Zalesny village, in addition, the OBI hypermarket moved to the new building.

In the republic, the turnover of online commerce amounted to 46 billion rubles last year – 41% more than in 2020, said the deputy head of the Executive Committee. Tatarstan is among the leaders of Russia in this indicator, and Kazan's share in this area is 71% of the total indicators of the republic. According to I.Shakirov, this year it is planned to continue the development of online retailing with a focus on the creation of dark-stores for storing products in Kazan.

For reference, earlier it was reported that in Kazan over the past two years, the number of entrepreneurs selling their goods on marketplaces has increased significantly: according to the results of 10 months of 2021, almost 8,000 entrepreneurs trade online and expanded their sales markets, and this is half of all republican sellers.
