Ilsur Metshin takes part at the General Assembly of the BRICS Association of Cities and Municipalities in New Delhi

The meeting was attended by over 300 delegates from Russia, India, Brazil, South Africa, Ethiopia and other countries

The General Assembly of the BRICS Association of Cities and Municipalities took place in New Delhi. During the event, representatives of the largest municipalities of the participating countries discussed issues of exchanging experience, strengthening interregional ties and implementing joint initiatives in the urban development. Over 300 delegates from Russia, India, Brazil, South Africa, Ethiopia and other countries attended the event. Irina Guseva, Co-chair of the Supreme Council of the Russian Association for the Development of Local Self-Government, represented Russia at the event. Ilsur Metshin, the Honorary Chairman of the Association, moderated the meeting.

The Vice-Mayor of Kazan Evgeniya Lodvigova also represented the capital of Tatarstan.

The participants summed up the work and events held under the auspices of the Association in 2025, including the first BRICS Youth Festival in Kazan, the General Assembly in Brazil, a working meeting in Tehran and other activities.

The Association continues to expand its presence. The General Assembly approved eight new members from five countries: Gorodetsky Municipal District of Nizhny Novgorod Region, Krasnodar, Urai urban District of Khanty–Mansiysk Region, Nizhnekamsk, Ramsar (Iran). An important stage in the development of the partnership was the joining of three major urban associations – the Association of Cities of Ethiopia, the Brazilian Association of Municipalities, and the All-India Institute of Local Self- Government.

The ceremony of official transferring the Association’s Chairmanship for the forthcoming period took place during the event. India’s chairmanship is expected to set a new trajectory for collaboration, focusing on strengthening economic ties between municipalities, developing safe urban environments, and implementation successful management decisions.

A number of agreements aimed at developing specific partnerships were also signed.
