Kazan citizens will be able to attend lectures about ballet during the Nuriev Festival

Films about Rudolf Nuriev and the art of dance will also be shown during the festival.

(KZN.RU, April 27). Several special programs are planned within the framework of the XXXI International Festival of Classical Ballet named after Rudolf Nuriev, which will take place on the stage of the Tatar Academic State Theater named after M. Jalil from May 10 to 23. Such formats as lectures before performances, film screenings and creative meetings with guests and participants of the festival are included in the program of the forum for the first time. The novelty is designed to make acquaintance with the ballet art more profound and informative.

The Ballet Talk program consists of seven lectures, which will be held in the pink living room of the theater before the performances “La Bayadere”, “The Swan Lake”, “Shurale”, “Don Quixote”, “Romeo and Juliet”, and the anniversary concert of the Kazan choreographic school (May 10-20). Lectures will be read by well-known art critics: Alexander Maksov, a ballet critic (Moscow), Elena Khadeeva, a candidate of Art History, an assistant professor of the Kazan Conservatory, Anna Maklygina, a lecturer at the Kazan Conservatory. The beginning of lectures is at 5 pm, the duration is 45 minutes. The entrance is free with tickets for the current date.

A special event of the Ballet Talk program will be a meeting with Laurent Iler, the ex-soloist and choreographer of the Paris National Opera, the artistic director of the ballet troupe of the Moscow Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theater. Monsieur Iler will talk about his experience working with Rudolf Nuriev. The meeting will take place on May 22 in the pink living room of the theater, the entrance is by invitation (representatives of the media, figures of ballet art).

Films about Rudolf Nuriev and the art of dance are included in the program Ballet feat. Cinema, created in partnership with the Union of Theater Workers of the RT and the Directorate for the Support of Film Projects and the organization of the festivals “The Time of Cinema”. Screenings of “Visit” by F. Yusupov, “Farewell to the Motherland” by F. Davletshin, “Dancing in the Desert” by R. Raymond, and “Kurban-novel” by S. Yuzeev will be held on May 15-18 in the House of the Actor named after M. Salimzhanov. The beginning of all events is at 6.30 pm.

On May 15, a conversation about the arrival of Rudolf Nuriev in Kazan in 1992 will take place before the screening of the film “Visit”. Vladimir Yakovlev, the artistic director of the TASTOB named after M. Jalil, Yury Larionov, the deputy director of the theater, Tatyana Mamaeva, a journalist, and others will share their memories. On May 16, the film critic Adil Khaibullin will give a lecture on “Plastic and flight in motion picture art”. On May 17, a ballet master class will be given by Oleg Ivenko, a principal dancer of the TASTOB named after M. Jalil. On May 18, Alexandra Elagina, the soloist of the theater, starred in the main role, and Salavat Yuzeev, a director, will tell about the film “Kurban-novel”.

Traditional exhibitions will be held in the theater during the festival. The mirror foyer will house the exposition “Two Geniuses”, prepared by the theater's museum. The exhibition is dedicated to the 80th birth anniversary of Rudolf Nuriev (1938-1993) and the 200th birth anniversary of Marius Petipa (1818-1910). The exhibition “Nuriev Festival: History in Costumes” will be on presented in the Green Living Room of the theater.
