More than 140,000 tourists visited Tatarstan during the New Year holidays, the peak was in early January. The results of cultural events in Tatarstan were summed up today at a briefing at the Tatarstan House of Government.

“All events in the republic were organized at a high level, tourists were impressed by visiting the Kazan Kremlin, Sviyazhsk, Yelabuga, Great Bolgar and Chistopol”, - said Deputy Prime Minister of Tatarstan Leyla Fazleeva. Also traditionally attractive are the winter residence of Kysh Babai and Kar Kyzy in the village of Novy Kyrlay in the Arsky district and the Raifsky Monastery in the Zelenodolsk district.
From December 31 to January 2, the hotels in the republic were 79% booked, from January 2 to January 9 – 90%. At the same time, there were no foreign tourists in Tatarstan, Deputy Chairman of the Tatarstan State Committee on Tourism Aigul Balakhontseva said. According to her, this is due to the imposed epidemiological restrictions. “We are now developing tourism and traveling in new realities”, - she emphasized.
New Year festive towns will start closing after January 16
More than 200 cultural and sports events were held in Kazan from December 20 to January 10, which were attended by about 300 thousand residents and visitors of the capital. More than 400 events were held in museums, theaters, exhibition halls and other cultural institutions, said Azat Abzalov, Head of the Culture Department of the Executive Committee of Kazan. On the New Year’s Eve, the skating rink in the Black Lake Park and the playground at the Kazan Family Center have become the main festive sites.
“Most of the events were held outdoors, taking into account precautions to avoid the spread of a new coronavirus infection”, - said the head of the Kazan Culture Department.
